My In The Dark Review ...

In the Dark, is the second book of his series, where another of the boys has fallen.  Which is quite the far drop from the one and done rule, these boys lived by.

Gabriel (Gabe) Walker is the more even keeled of the three boys.  He too comes from a rich, demanding family, where they dictate what is expected of him.  But Gabe, wants a different life then what they want.

Lucy comes a single mother, who learned her lessons the hard way.  After this, she has instilled her philosophies with Lucy, which has made Lucy a bit gun shy where boys/men are concerned.

Lucy by chance is house sitting in Santa Monica, where she has a GQ looking neighbor whom makes it no secret of his interest in her.  As Gabe has been blatantly watching Lucy for weeks, he finally takes the plunge and goes after her.

He quickly learns a few things.
1) Lucy is NOT like any other girl he has been with.
2) Lucy has insecurities
3) Lucy holds a lot to the vest.
4) She's also everything that he wants

Lucy's a bit doomed from the start, with her mama's fears, and insecurities combined with lies, assumptions.

Gabe usually goes for the blonde country club type of girl, but Lucy is curvy, Latino and sexy as hell.

"I'm on a diet."  I don't get why.  Really I don't.  (Me neither)
Gabe has a bit of an uphill battle with Lucy's fears and insecurities.

"I like you just as you are.  I wish you would too."

Since Gabe's an easy going guy, he makes up a story for Lucy that he thinks should fit her.  Assuming he's right since she didn't correct him, he keeps on assuming this is true.  For Lucy she first assumed that it was only going to be a summer fling so it was easy to let Gabe think one thing when the truth was another.

Now that their worlds collide after a steamy summer fling, Lucy is faced with what she's done.

Hopefully our mistakes won't come back and bite us both in the butt.

Lucy can't fight her feelings for Gabe, but she keeps digging herself a bigger hole.

I'm so scared to tell him anything personal for fear he'll dump me  (Argh! Insert eye roll here)
Then more digging . ..

Telling Gabe the truth now? Could cause me to lose him.  And that's a risk I'm not willing to take.  (Yeah! That's not stupid at all and keeping secrets will never back fire.  Insert another eye roll here)
I liked the idea of Lucy more than Lucy herself.  I think it's because within this genre the insecure heroine has been overdone that I'm quick to not like these types.  I'm also a strong woman and want to see and read about strong woman.

I'm the idiot who lied to him during our entire relationship.  I have no one to blame bit myself.  (Agree)
Often we have to learn the lesson the hard way and for Lucy that's the case.  Thankfully Gabe's sweet, honest and strong and stands up for what he wants no matter the consequences.  Sure he made his own mistakes but they're both young and have to learn.

Do I like this series?  Yes, but both books so far have taken me a bit of time to get into them.  Did I like Gabe and Lucy together?  Yes, especially after Lucy gets over her personal shit.  I have to admit that I have a weak spot for NA and this did fit the bill, even though this rich world is not my world.  The expectations are different while their role models have nothing but cold relationships due to being a part instead of a person.  It's nice to get lost in a world that I don't know and would not want to be part of.  Now we have to wait for the grumpy Tristan to fall.  Will I continue with this series?  Absolutely, as I have to see how the mighty Tristan will fall in love and hopefully bite his opinions and words that he's so quick to give.

3. 25 NA Thumbs up!
