The Truth About Lies (The Truth Duet, #1)

Synopsis:

Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. And I was helpless to save her.
Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories.
Until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.
Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.
Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.
Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.
But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person. She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

My The Truth About Us Review . . .

When I first started to read this book I was in a bit of reading funk, so it took me awhile to get into it.  That had nothing to do with the writing or the story, but just me and my funk.  However, the more I started to read the more and more this story started to pull me out of my funk.

One in. One Out.

This story is an unconventional love story with twists and turns, as well as a cliffhanger.   And that ending keeps you hooked in, foaming at the bit waiting for more.  With a need to find out all the answers to many unanswered questions.

Cora, has definitely not had it easy in life, but she still has a great spirit while she tries to make the best out of things.

Now, Penn he's a bit of an enigma.  He too has a tragic past but he also has many secrets and he makes it hard to completely believe what is the truth.

Cora and Penn are both great individually but the two of them together are great.  I loved the banter between the two of them.  It showcased how strong and witty their characters are while they start to get to know each other.

"Fine.  Consider it a medical condition like that thing with your mouth.  Which I'd like to note seems to have developed a new, much noisier symptoms."
The world Cora lives in, is not for everyone.  And to the majority of people it would be easy to judge the people within her world.  However, Cora sees past all that.  She's see them all as people and not for the choices they made or had to make to survive.

~ Women don't find themselves in this life because they seek it out.  They find themselves here because the world has beaten them down to the point that even the darkest knight looks like a hero.~
The more Cora and Penn start to fall for each other the more layers get revealed.  And each layer as it gets unveiled also gives us more questions.  Then we are left hanging waiting.  Now I'm completely hook, line and sunk with this story and can't wait for more.  The Truth About Us can't come out soon enough.

4 We need the full truth thumbs up!

The right words can save your life.

For fans of Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult... A soldier falls in love with his battle buddy’s sister through their letters and returns home from Afghanistan with a secret that could destroy their fragile relationship. Don’t miss THE LAST LETTER by Rebecca Yarros, pre-order your copy today!

About THE LAST LETTER (Coming 2/26/2019):

Beckett,

If you’re reading this, well, you know the “last-letter” drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there were any chance you could have saved me, you would have.

I need one thing from you: Get out of the army and get to Telluride.

My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.

And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.

So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.

Please don’t make her go through it alone.

Ryan

My Negotiated Review . . .

It has felt forever since I've been wanting Scarlett's story and its finally here.  And then it went way to fast,  just as I was really getting into the story it was over.  :( Scarlett has always kept things close to the vest and I was so excited to finally get to see what is under her shell.   However, we didn't get to see too much.   Sure we did get a layer revealed that was one that I wasn't expecting so that was nice but that's all we really got to see.  I thought we were going to see so much more of Scarlett.

Hudson always wants to win, no matter the way.  However, seducing Scarlett wasn't part of the plan and once given the opportunity he couldn't turn it down.   Even though Hudson wasn't completely honest with her I did quite like him.   And I especially liked him for Scarlett.

I loved that there was no unnecessary drama in this story but I was sad that it was too short and I was left wanting more from Scarlett.  She seems to be a woman with many, many layers and I feel we only tipped the surface with Scarlett.  Thankfully. we did get lots of chemistry between the two which helped the missing bits for me.

3 I need more Scarlett and Hudson thumbs up!
