My Better When He's Bold Review...

I LOVED Better When He's Bad so I could NOT wait to finally get behind behind the new brains of the point - Race Hartman.
The two sides of him that made him unpredictable and hard to really get my head around. Altruistic and selfless while, in turn, being arrogant and flippant about his current circumstances.

Race is the best friend to Shane 'Bax' Baxter and the brother to Bax's girl Dovie Price.  He was also originally from the privileged side of the tracks but when he gets a taste of really living and then cuts his ties with his family that he knows to take care of the family that only matters he ends up in the Point.
"Don't be.  I was an asshole and a spoiled brat when I lived like them.
It took making my own place in this world, finding my real family and my real place, to understand what life was really about."
Race will do anything to protect his sister but those choices almost lost his best friend.  Now that they are a package duo, it forces Bax and Race to mend bridges while trying to help change the Point to what it could be.  But not everyone is okay with these changes and a lot of shit is going on their own doorstep trying to prevent these changes.

The last things Race needs is a distraction especially one who has her own suitcase of issues, but Race has always been drawn to Brysen and can't deny the opportunity when he finally gets his chance.  They're in the middle of a war brewing but their chemistry is on fire and undeniable but with Brysen been torn between her family and Race, while Race is being torn between Brysen and the Point.
"I'm glad you're not absolutely physically perfect, Race. Trying to handle all the obvious perfection is distracting and hard as it is.  Knowing there are parts of you that aren't flawless makes you so much more human."
With Race the new king of the Point he's willing to have a queen but she has to be able to accept all that comes with this title as it won't be easy.  Brysen waivers back and forth between going all in or not but in the meantime she is barely keeping alive with a new threat lurking around and at the same time her family is imploding.  Race can't be everywhere at once but he tries to keep his hands still inside the Point while protecting Brysen.
"If he's nice to you, takes care of you, and makes you happy, the choices he has to make that affect others shouldn't matter.  People are always hurting each other, and if you have a guy going out of his way to not hurt you, well, that's what matters.  Rich, poor, and everything in between."
Brysen's little sister Karsen seems to be one of the only logical ones in the middle of this mess.  Her advice helps Brysen find balance while at the same time we get to see a potential love match for the future with Booker & Karsen. (fingers crossed for this duo).

There is so much drama brewing in the Point while Brysen's issues come to a head with many potentially bad outcomes.
"Take that.  If you need to use it then shit is fucked and I don't know what else to tell you other that good luck, Blondie. Now get your ass upstairs"
By the end of the story the drama is only simmering we have to find out in the next book(s) how it all comes to a boil and if they can all survive and still come up on top.  My fingers are crossed for these bad boys that they get to live some good while being still being bad. In the meantime Race, Brysen, Bax and Dovie are doing their best to find the slice of happiness in the middle of this shit storm. I can't wait to read Titus's book next because you know it's going to be good.  While the others are bad Titus is good to the bone but he will have to find more gray to survive this war.

I Belong to You (Inside Out #5) by Lisa Renee Jones ~ #bookreview

I Belong to You (Inside Out #5)

Being that person, that man is how I define myself, how I allow the rest of the world to define me as well. And now, with a terrible loss shredding me inside out and someone trying to destroy my family to punish me, control is more important than ever. It is everything. It is what I need. It is all I need. Or maybe I just need…her.

My I Belong to You Review...

I have to admit throughout the whole series I was hoping that Rebecca would resurface and Marc could heal his demons and finally admit to being in love.  So, even with the novellas leading up to this book I was still fighting the aspect of Crystal but in this book I was won over and got to see that Marc was so much better with Crystal then he could have ever been with Rebecca

"I've said this before, but I want to be very clear.  You are freedom to me, Crystal.  A place I can be the man beneath the Master.  Where my pain isn't my weakness.  I want to be that with you, but to do that, you have to be willing to be vulnerable."
Crystal and Marc both have their own demons which is why they understand each other so well.
"But not everyone has the kind of monsters that I do.  And you do.  I know, Crystal.  It's how we connected in the beginning.  It's what gave me the freedom to be man, and not Master, with you. ..."
This series, was done in such a unique way between the books and the novellas.  Sure at times the novellas got tedious and I started to grow tired of the story and wanted it to end but this book was a great conclusion to the journey of Marc finding back the man instead of the Master.

The whole time Marc has always been the master and at times hard to swallow the choices he made in order to protect his heart but here is where we get to see why he did what he did.  After losing Rebecca we see the Master losing his armor but not knowing how to get back the control he thinks he needs to survive.   Now add his mother possibly dying and a certain blonde who gets underneath his shield and his life explodes.

The evolution of Marc from man to master back to man was an emotionally charged one especially when he is faced with the aspect to lose more than he has already lived through.  This book was great.  It has such a great balance of suspense, drama, growth and love.

My In His Keeping Review ...

This is technically book two of this series but it could be read as a standalone.  However, you will get more from the story reading it as a series.  This book is based around the gruff, brooding Beau Deveraux, whom after his brother Caleb's experience he doesn't take anything to lightly and believes anything can happen.

Arial (Ari) has come into this world loved but had to be hidden because of her special powers.  Her parents would do ANYTHING to keep her safe.  Because safety was always an issue, her dad let her know that if she ever needed help when he wasn't there to go right to Beau or Caleb Deveraux.

The minute Beau meets Ari his shell starts to chip and he instantly wants to take care of her.  And it doesn't take long for Beau to step up to the plate because the minute they try and leave his office all hell breaks loose.

All Ari has ever known are her parents but she quickly has to depend on others.  As Ari and Beau are trying to survive they also fall into each other and start to depend on each other quite quickly.

However trying to survive isn't the only thing Ari has to deal with as she finally finds out more truths about herself and her past.
Blood didn't make a family.
Love did.
Ari has a pure heart which makes her a bit of martyr when it comes to other but she does have a kick ass gift so you can't really blame her.
Because it was her nature to put herself before others.  To protect when she was the one in need of protection.  If she died saving his life it would be for nothing because his life wasn't worth a damn thing without her in it.
For Beau thinking he has everything under cover quickly gets blown away when Ari gets taken and now he has to do anything to get her back because without her he would be lost.  For Beau he NEEDS to take care of her but he really doesn't have to because with her gift Ari can easily take care of herself and others.   As Ari holds a little vengeance to her attacker and her parent's kidnappers she unleashes a fury like no other.

Thankfully there is a HEA for her and her family where she can surround herself with love and others who have similar gifts that make her feel normal and safe.  This book has suspense, passion and loads of drama.

The Phoenix Candidate by Heidi Joy Tretheway ~ #bookreview

The Phoenix Candidate Synopsis:
Fans of Scandal, House of Cards, and The Good Wife will love Grace Colton…

Congresswoman Grace Colton is the most famous woman in politics—and the loneliest—until a drawling, sexy stranger offers her one night, no strings and no regrets.

Grace wakes to an empty hotel room and a phone call: the dark horse for the 2016 presidential election, Senator Shep Conover, is considering her as his vice presidential running mate. But first, Grace must be vetted and coached by Shep’s political consultant, Jared Rankin, who already knows too many intimate details about her. He’s Mr. One-Night Stand.

Grace is torn: Play nice with Jared to join the senator’s ticket, or play hardball and back the slick frontrunner? Grace must decide where her loyalties lie and if she can trust Jared with her future—and her heart.

The Phoenix Candidate is an erotic romance set in the world of presidential election politics. Recommended for mature readers due to sharp dialogue, wickedly hot sex, and a few delicious taboos. This full-length novel is first in a series and can be read as a standalone.

My Phoenix Candidate Review ...

Hallelujah! This is the kind of book I like to read.  Strong heroine. Strong story that it revolves around something else besides the relationship angst.  Strong dominant man.  Lots of steam and passion.

Heidi Joy Tretheway has made quite the jump from NA rock star romance to political erotica.
"So, Grace, tell me what you've been doing with your summer."
Oh, not much. Just prepping to be a vice presidential nominee while having a steamy, love-hate affair with a political consultant.
Grace Colton has a mission to try and make America a safer and better place after a horrific tragedy but she's not living.  One night out with friends she meets a mysterious man who convinces her to have one night of no strings, no names and no regrets.
After been awoken after a long slumber she wants more but her mystery man disappears until she is approached about the possibility to be a Vice president running mate to only find her mystery man is also the political consultant involved with this possibility.

Even though she has a potential life altering change in her near future, her and Jared (mystery man) can't keep their hands off each other and let me tell you Jared is ALL man and knows how to get what he wants. (Yowza!) As Grace moves forward with this journey, she meets a villain who I knew had a much bigger role in things than on the surface, she also has some personal growth to do if she wants this future.  On one hand she wants this opportunity but what will be the cost?  As she figures things out her and Jared steam the sheets but Jared has walls which causes conflict for Grace.  But she's a strong woman and will move forward and not dwell when life kicks her down.  She rises above and moves forward (which I loved by the way as I love a strong independent heroine)

Grace has to be true to herself and that is what will get her where she needs to be.
"You wreck me, Grace.  You're truth and beauty.  You're power and passion.  You're my drug, my clarity.  And you are fucking mine."
This book was freakin' great!!!! I loved the story.  I loved the fact that yes it was a romance but there was an actual story besides the relationship angst.  Yes, there was still angst but it was so much more which gets you sucked into the story and never wanting to leave.  I can NOT wait to find out more from Grace and Jared.  Argh! April feels too far way.

4.5 Powerful Thumbs up!

An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.
Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.
No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

Excerpt #3
His eyes lit up at that as his gaze traveled across my chest and wandered down to the most private of places. I was clothed and covered in the right places, but in front of him, I felt completely naked. The feeling was unnerving and delicious all at once, which only confused me further.
So he’s sexy as hell. It doesn’t matter. He’s the enemy.
‘It doesn’t matter anyway,’ I added hastily. ‘I’ve got a nasty case of the clap. Better not rape me or your pico might fall off.’ I thrust my chin out as I used the Spanish term for ‘small dick’, smirking at the Gypsy Brother as his warm hands continued to roam every bit of bare flesh on my arms.
Dornan laughed at my admission, a throaty noise full of gravel and insolence that made me increasingly unsteady on my feet.
‘I’m not going to rape you,’ he replied, amusement dancing in his dark eyes. ‘And you don’t have the clap. So don’t use that one on me.’
