Part 7 in a series but could be read as a standalone

My Racer Review . . .

I just saw Katy Evans so I was sign me up then I started read a bit and I realized holy shit this is the Remy's son and I was even more stoked.  I didn't realize that this was part 7 in the Real series.  Oops! Of course there were many similar elements to Remy and Brooke,  but that is to be expected.  And Racer was just as great as Real and Remy were plus we get visits from everyone from the this series.

Lana is living her family dreams which is being part of HW Racing team, however time is running out for their dream of having a winner be reality.  Lana needs a miracle and she finds one in Racer Tate.

In Racer, the story revolves around Racer Tate whom is the son of Remy and Brooke Tate and an illegal street racer and Lana the PR of HW Racing.

I have to say these Tates don't mess around when it comes to love.

Lana is hesitant to start anything with Racer, even though she's never been so drawn to an individual before.  However, Racer is determined and persistent and gets what he wants and winning and Lana are what he wants.

Once Lana and Racer given in it goes full throttle for these two.

"That day you told me that I . . . loved you . . . I was crying because I have never felt this intensely for anyone.  And I don't know if I can be all you need."  I catch my breath on a gush of emotion.  "I want you, your whole being, your entire you.  Even this."
As we know its not always easy loving a Tate.  Especially a Tate suffering mental illness.

" A man is made up of more than what he battles with."
But Lana loves just as fiercely as Brooke and she's the one for Racer.   She quickly learns that this is only a small ripple to the whole package that is Racer Tate.

"I could tell you that it's always worth it. But sometimes it's hard; it's hard for both of you.  He wants to be better, you want him to be better, and sometimes there's nothing either of you can do but hang on and ride the wave.  And it is a wave.  It passes.  And then the water is calm again, and you can see the reflection of what you have, and that's when it's worth it.  Every wave is worth it because one wave doesn't reflect the whole ocean."
I freaking love this series and especially those Tate men.   Racer didn't disappoint.  It was just as dynamic and manic as Real & Remy and I loved it.  Racer and Lana were perfect for one another.   The story revolved around them but there were so many more elements to it that help make the story so much more.

 4 Manic loving thumbs up!

Lucas by Sawyer Bennett #bookreview #ColdFuryHockey #sportsromance

Lucas (Cold Fury, Book #8)

Synopsis:

The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team is stacked with hotshots. But when a new player joins their ranks, he learns that even superstars can’t go it alone when it comes to love.

Lucas Fournier is only serious about one thing: hockey. The league’s fun-loving charmer, Luc is always up for a good prank or a great lay, and he has no intention of settling down. But being traded to the Carolina Cold Fury—and to play alongside his big brother, Max—is no joke. With another title in sight, the last thing Luc wants is to let his new teammates down. To succeed, Luc will need to keep his head in the game and the most . . . er, demanding member of his anatomy in check. But when temptation hits, Luc hits back harder.

Museum curator Stephanie Frazier has always put business before pleasure, which just about explains her nonexistent sex life. But when Stephanie meets Luc at a champagne-fueled gala, she finds herself flirting like crazy—and going home with the uninhibited athlete. For one night, she learns what passion is all about. She just never counted on the little surprise Luc leaves behind. And that’s when things really start to get . . . interesting.

Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling Carolina Cold Fury series can be read together or separately.

A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina, Sawyer uses real life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. From new adult to erotic contemporary romance, Sawyer writes something for just about everyone.

She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or even better, both.

Sawyer also writes general and women’s fiction under the pen name S. Bennett and sweet romance under the name Juliette Poe.

Part 8 of an ongoing series but could be read as a standalone

My Lucas Review . . .

Lucas Fournier is Max's little brother and finally they're playing on the same team.  For Lucas he loves the single life.  He has no reason for being tied down.   He's happy for Max but he doesn't think that's for him right now in his life.

Stephanie Frazier is a strong, independent woman, who knows what she wants.  She's fun loving and easy going and the last thing she wants is a relationship.  She's all for fun loving and no commitments.  So, when she meets Lucas she's all over that one night stand.   And this one night stand turns into so much more.

We quickly realize that there is a reason for Stephanie's easiness with no relationships and its because she's got a ton of baggage.

" . . . But you stand to lose him if you can't take a little bit of a risk with your heart. "
Luc may have been surprised with the outcome with their one night but he's a loyal man with a big heart and will always do the right thing.

Stephanie may be hesitant with commitment but she's okay with friends with benefits.   Luc's on board with this plan but hopes for more.

"Stephanie, just because I think you have the potential to hurt my son doesn't mean I don't like you.  And just because you have the potential to hurt my son doesn't mean you're not good for him."
Stephanie had a hard road learning to love herself and finding herself worthy of love.

"I feel sorry for you, Steph.  And I feel sorry for our kid. I sure hope to shit you learn how to really love before that baby comes along, or you're going to fuck its life the way your parents fucked up yours."
Oh Boy! Poor Steph, this was not an easy journey but so worth it in the end.  I normally don't like whiny heroines and Stephanie wasn't whiny per se but her baggage was heavy and at times tiresome for her stubbornness on not moving forward.   Unfortunately Steph's baggage was a large part of the story and I wanted more than just this but in the end I did quite like story and I adore all the boys of the Cold Fury.

3 Baggage filled thumbs up!

Excerpt:

Sawyer
My throat tightened and a heaviness grew in my chest like my heart didn’t know whether to beat faster or stop beating altogether. “Did you leave me all this to show me the life you could’ve had, but didn’t? Why!?” I pounded the wheel again and then again, and again and again until my vision was blurry and all I could see was the redness of my own heated rage. “You’re a fucking coward! You fucking COWARD!” I screamed to no one, pounding on the wheel until the skin across my knuckles split and blood dripped between my fingers.
Strong hands bit into my biceps, yanking me from the cab. I was spun around by my shoulders and found myself face to face with Finn. “I like it when you swear,” he said, pressing close.
“Finn, get off me! Get off me! Let me go!” I wailed, struggling to free myself from his grip. Kicking out my legs only to connect with the air as he evaded my every move.
A growl tore from his throat. Finn picked me up and walked me to the back of the truck, setting me on the open tailgate. He pushed himself between my legs and hovered over me to keep me from leaping off.
“Let me go,” I demanded, pushing at his hard chest. “I don’t have time for your broodiness right now.”
Finn held my wrists together with one hand. “No, of course you don’t. You’re too busy tearing up pictures and screaming at no one.”
“Let me go,” I repeated.
“No,” he said between clenched teeth.
“Just go! Leave me alone. Leave meeeeeee!” I wailed as I pounded against his stone chest.
“You don’t want to hit me,” he warned, his eyes hardened.
“Then let me go.”
“Why?” He stepped in closer, unaffected by my attempt to fight against him. My inner thighs were touching his outer thighs.
“Because she did!” I screamed, my eyes sprang open to find his cold blue gaze. “She could have run anywhere and taken me with her. Instead she left him but she left me too. She was a coward who couldn’t make the right decision and I love her. I love her…but I hate her. I hate her so much…so…” I was interrupted when Finn’s lips pressed against mine, momentarily rendering me stupid. I pointed my toes toward the sky to avoid my initial instinct which was to wrap my legs around him. It was so consuming that I momentarily forgot to fight him off, but I didn’t need to, he pulled his lips from mine.
“Stop doing that,” I said. I pushed him off but he stayed between my legs, his hands on my bare back just under the hem of his big t-shirt I was wearing. His gaze hardened. I could see the conflict written in his lined forehead and the deep V between his eyes. I had no doubt the conflict had everything to do with me.
And kissing me.
“It’s your fault that I do it,” Finn said, his voice deep and smooth against my chin and then my neck.
“So that’s your plan? Kiss me every time you want to shut me up?” I asked, still feeling every bit of my anger but also feeling something else. Something that sent tingles between my legs and an ache in my core. “Thank you for saving me. Really. Thank you. I appreciate it,” my voice cracked. “But you can just leave me alone now. And please, STOP kissing me.” My words a whisper.
“I’m going to kiss you whenever I want to kiss you,” Finn stated as if I didn’t have a say in the matter.
The early morning sunlight highlighted the beads of sweat trickling from his shoulders down his broad chest and across the valleys of his defined abs. He was standing so close that we were breathing in each other’s air.
“Whenever you want to kiss me?” I laughed. “I don’t understand you. I don’t understand any of this. You’re always mad at me. Why did you save me? Why do you keep kissing me when you’re always mad at me?”
“It’s when I’m pissed off at you that I want to kiss you the most,” Finn said, his voice flowing over my skin like a silky blanket. He slid me closer so I could feel the outline of his rigid erection as if he were proving a point. He lowered his lips to mine and consumed my mouth in a greedy kiss that had me shaking with need and spinning with confusion.
“Do you always kiss everyone you hate?” I asked, yanking my lips from his.
“Does this feel like hate to you?” he growled pushing his hard length between my legs.

My The Outskirts  Review . . .

At first I think this was supposed to be a standalone but it ended up a duet and now I'm dying to  find out how this all plays out, since there's quiet a cliffhanger at the end of this story.

The books starts with Sawyer at her mother's funeral then takes a sharp turn right into the middle of the swamp.   Within in this swamp is Finn, a broken man with a terrible past.  The is the first time Sawyer has ever been away from her family and religious community and she didn't quite get a warm welcome from Finn.  However, Sawyer is the light into Finn's darkness and exactly what this swamp needed.

There is something so special about T.M. Frazier and her gift at weaving stories.  In her writing world there is a lot of dark but it is perfectly balanced with the light needed to give its emotional depth that's ripped from your soul while reading her stories.  And The Outskirts is just another example of this brilliance.

I love this book.  Both Sawyer and Finn have so many layers and we still have so much to learn about Finn.  As we start getting wrapped into the vortex of Sawyer and Finn the twist and turns keep coming, reeling us in. And now it ends with Sawyer's past coming barreling forward but with so many twists that we don't know what to believe any more.  November 1 can't come soon enough where we get to find out how it all ends for Sawyer and Finn in The Outliers.

4 Love within in the swamp thumbs up!

My The Beautiful Now Review . . .

Where there is hate, there is misery.  Where there is forgiveness, there is healing.
It has felt like forever since I read a M. Leighton book and how I've missed her writing.   In The Beautiful Now it felt like a mixture of Gilmore Girls, heartbreak and hope.

The book starts in 2004 as a current present day and goes back in time as we get to see the heartbreak that was Dane and Brinkley.  The last thing Brinkely wanted to do was go back home, but life has different things in mind and forces her back home.  Here she has to face her past and see the consequences of what has happened to her and the choices she made.

"I'd have gone with you.  I'd have been your family."
When Brinkley was 12 she got dragged to a backwards town where the rich hung out with the rich and didn't associate with anyone beneath them.  However, Brinkley didn't want to live that way.  And her saviour was a boy named Dane.  Unfortunately Dane wasn't part of the Elite and was strictly forbidden.   That didn't stop Brinkely from falling for this boy anyways.

When they were kids Dane and Brinkley didn't get a lot of time together but the moments they did have were precious.   Now many years later things have changed but that doesn't mean the feelings have gone away.  But there are many truths that need to be sorted before there is any happy.

The banter between adult Brinkley and her family was very similar to Lorelai Gilmore, and how she banters with her mom and Rorie. .   It was quick, witty and also a survival mechanism that both Lorelei and Brinkley have in common.

"We fight for love in this family.  We fight for each other.  We always have."
This was such a heartfelt story.  There was so much heartbreak but the journey was worth it.  At times I felt the book a bit long winded but once I got into the momentum of the story I couldn't put it down.

4 There is always hope thumbs up!
