Strong.
Hardworking.
Forbidden.
From the moment we met, we were star-crossed
lovers—always wanting, never having. We loved each other for most of our lives,
but right from the beginning destiny had other plans. She knew we would fall in love. She knew we would fall apart. Over and over again, like the curse of a
recurring nightmare. Or the hope of a
familiar dream.
Our past was tumultuous. Our future was bleak. But the one thing we always had was the
beautiful now.
Until that was taken from us, too.

My The Beautiful Now Review . . .
Where there is hate, there is misery. Where there is forgiveness, there is healing.
It has felt like forever since I read a M. Leighton book and how I've missed her writing. In The Beautiful Now it felt like a mixture of Gilmore Girls, heartbreak and hope.
The book starts in 2004 as a current present day and goes back in time as we get to see the heartbreak that was Dane and Brinkley. The last thing Brinkely wanted to do was go back home, but life has different things in mind and forces her back home. Here she has to face her past and see the consequences of what has happened to her and the choices she made.
When they were kids Dane and Brinkley didn't get a lot of time together but the moments they did have were precious. Now many years later things have changed but that doesn't mean the feelings have gone away. But there are many truths that need to be sorted before there is any happy.
The banter between adult Brinkley and her family was very similar to Lorelai Gilmore, and how she banters with her mom and Rorie. . It was quick, witty and also a survival mechanism that both Lorelei and Brinkley have in common.

"I'd have gone with you. I'd have been your family."When Brinkley was 12 she got dragged to a backwards town where the rich hung out with the rich and didn't associate with anyone beneath them. However, Brinkley didn't want to live that way. And her saviour was a boy named Dane. Unfortunately Dane wasn't part of the Elite and was strictly forbidden. That didn't stop Brinkely from falling for this boy anyways.

"We fight for love in this family. We fight for each other. We always have."This was such a heartfelt story. There was so much heartbreak but the journey was worth it. At times I felt the book a bit long winded but once I got into the momentum of the story I couldn't put it down.
4 There is always hope thumbs up!
Lauren
