-A reclusive rock star going through the motions- Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn’t been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not. -A vivacious college student embracing life- When outspoken and fun-loving Casey Caldwell was paired with the famously reserved musician for a friend’s wedding, she was prepared for the worst. What could they possibly have in common? She was a bubbly talker; he was a media-shy loner. His life was filled with music; she couldn’t carry a tune. She’d enjoyed a happy childhood; his was a well-publicized nightmare. -Their worlds are about to collide- Despite their obvious differences, Jake and Casey found each other, and her light balanced out his darkness. Would their love be strong enough to survive the weight of his tragic past?

My Cake: The Newlyweds Review . . .

I first stumbled across Cake when I was browsing through kindle unlimited titles and I was pleasantly surprised with the story.  So, I jumped at the chance to read this one thinking it was a sequel to Cake.  And it technically was but it was also book 4 in this series.  I felt I was able to read the story without missing out too much, but now I have to read books 2 & 3 because there were elements that were missing that I want to find out now.

Casey and Jake are making it work while Jake is a rock star and Casey is trying to carry on with her normal life, well as normal as it can be when your husband is a rock star.  But things are not smooth for Casey's life.   This book is set up like a biography of sorts and helps us see how Casey and Jake go from engaged to eventually married.  That was neat to see but it did draw out a bit of times and many of the details could have been less.  Once we get to the married part the the meat of the story starts to pick up when tragedy hits and Casey and her family's lives are rocked forever.  I was a bit gutted during this part and actually didn't see it coming.

Jake still has his own demons that he's been dealing with from the beginning and those demons aren't making for a smooth ride either.   However, the thing about Casey and Jake is that they are so much stronger together than separate that's what makes them CAKE.    Adored the epilogues how they were set up and I can't wait for more from Casey & Jake's remaining single family members.

3.5 Love Wins Thumbs up!

SYNOPSIS
One break is all The Crow Brothers need and we’re about to get it.
Johnny Outlaw, rock legend and lead singer of The Resistance, is here to watch us play. But he’s not the only familiar face in the crowd—killer little body, heart-shaped face, and drop-dead gorgeous.
Hannah Nichols sitting at the bar makes it hard to concentrate, sparks already reigniting. The beauty was never a groupie and tonight she’s not here to catch our show. She came to drop a bomb. “You have a son.”
She underestimated me. I’ll prove to my son, and her, that I can be the dad he needs.
What is it about musicians? Why are they so damn sexy?
My heart was Jet Crow’s the moment he opened his sexy mouth and sang that first song. One stolen night with that man would never be enough, but I’m not here to fall into his bed. Again. I’m here to fight for custody of a son he’s never known.
There’s just one problem. Those sparks between us have become flames. If we’re not careful we’re both going to get burned.

SPARK EXCERPT
Prologue
Jet Crow
Subtle scents of cinnamon mix with the taste of whiskey on her skin. I lick her from collarbone to the back of her ear, her moans enticing me to take more than a gentle share of what I want.
I’m well past hooking up with groupies, but something drew me to the beautiful brunette. Under the bright spotlight of that stage, my eyes found hers as I sang about finding the missing piece of me. Maybe it was the way she pretended to not care, catching my eyes and then turning away as if she was too shy to come speak to me, but too good to be bothered. It didn’t matter. I was already caught up in her as much as she was caught up in me.
The set ended and I made my way over to the mystery woman, the one who hid in the dark of the bar just as two shots were served. I took the shot of Fireball and then took her home shortly after.
Fuck. She feels good.
Hard little body, but soft in all the right places. Tits that fill my large hands and legs that spread enough for me to squeeze between her thighs. I bet she wouldn’t reach my shoulders in heels. Speaking of, “Keep them on.”
I like the feel of the leather against my lower back, the hard heel scraping across my skin when she tries to power play me by tightening around my waist and pulling me closer. I didn’t ask her to my bedroom. I didn’t have a chance. What started out as laughing while we shared a two a.m. snack of Cheetos, hummus, and whiskey turned into me eating her as a snack on top of my kitchen counter. I don’t ever do that with a one-nighter, but damn if she didn’t make me want to break more rules with her.
She kisses me like a woman in need of water, taking as much as she wants while pressing her heels into my ass. The heat between us emanates until I’m dragging my shirt off to try to cool down.
I knew she was different the moment she opened her mouth back at the bar. “You sing rock with so much soul. Who hurt you?”
“No one gets close enough to do me any harm.”
“That’s a pity.”
“It’s a pity I’ve never been hurt?”
“No, it’s a pity you’ve never loved anyone enough to get hurt.”
My heart started beating for what felt like the first time as I looked into her sultry eyes. I could blame the booze, but I can’t lie to myself. She had me thinking twice on things I never considered once before.
Who was this woman?
Even with our stomachs full, we weren’t satisfied. She dragged me by the belt down the hall to my bedroom. Her clothes were off and mine quickly followed before we tumbled into bed.
Fast. I want to fuck her fast and hard, but every time our eyes connect there’s such sadness found in her grays that I slow down. Wanting her to hold contact, I cup her cheek. “Hannah?”
Her eyes slowly open, the long lashes framing the lust I find between them. “What?” she asks between heavy breaths.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m good.”
“Just making sure.”
She runs her hands up my neck and into the back of my hair. “I’m sure.” Pulling me down to her, our mouths are just a few inches apart when she whispers, “I want you. I want to do this.”
Shy isn’t something I’d call her considering we were in my bed two hours after meeting. I like a woman who knows what she wants. Hannah knows. And fuck if it isn’t a turn on that she wants me.

Rough Ride by Kristen Ashley #ChaosMC #novella #1001darknights #bookreview #trailer #excerpt @InkSlingerPR @KristenAshley68

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley comes a new story in her Chaos series…

About ROUGH RIDE:

Rosalie Holloway put it all on the line for the Chaos Motorcycle Club.

Informing to Chaos on their rival club—her man’s club, Bounty—Rosalie knows the stakes. And she pays them when her man, who she was hoping to scare straight, finds out she’s betrayed him and he delivers her to his brothers to mete out their form of justice.

But really, Rosie has long been denying that, as she drifted away from her Bounty, she’s been falling in love with Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh, a Chaos brother. Snap is the biker-boy-next door with the snowy blue eyes, quiet confidence and sweet disposition who was supposed to keep her safe…and fell down on that job.

For Snapper, it’s always been Rosalie, from the first time he saw her at the Chaos Compound. He’s just been waiting for a clear shot. But he didn’t want to get it after his Rosie was left bleeding, beat down and broken by Bounty on a cement warehouse floor.

With Rosalie a casualty of an ongoing war, Snapper has to guide her to trust him, take a shot with him, build a them…

And fold his woman firmly in the family that is Chaos.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

 Excerpt
He spit on me.
I felt it land on the side of my chin and slide down.
I didn’t move to wipe it away.
I couldn’t.
Lying on my side, curled into a ball, the pain screamed through me. All of it—and there was a lot of it—demanding attention, I couldn’t concentrate, couldn’t think, couldn’t move in case it got worse. I couldn’t do anything but lie there and pray that it was over.
It wasn’t.
He bent over me, grabbed my hair, yanked it back, and I felt his hot breath hit my face.
“See if he wants you now, you stupid bitch,” he hissed.
He let my hair go and I felt him retreat, but he still wasn’t done
He kicked me so hard with his foot in its heavy motorcycle boot, my body slid across the cement.
I was too far gone even to grunt.
I felt something bounce off my hip, clatter to the floor, and then his voice came back, this time from further away.
“There you go, baby,” he drawled. “Your line to Chaos. We’re done with you. I’m done with you. Now they can have you.”
I heard boots on cement, more than just his, his Bounty brothers in the club. I sustained a couple more kicks as they passed. One of them grabbed the underside of my jaw and shoved my head back into the cement, also spitting, his hitting my neck.
And then they were gone.
I lay there, my focus on breathing and continuing to do it even though each breath was not only an effort but an agony. The fear I’d felt early when he took me, how he’d taken me, the way he’d handled me and I knew he’d figured it out, had dissipated as pain took its place. Now, the fear was returning that they’d come back and dish out more.
He’d come back.
Throttle.

Part #4.5 of an ongoing series

My Rough Ride Review . . .

We first met Rosalie in Own the Wind when she was with Shy before he got with Tabby.   At the end of Own the Wind, we think Rosalie has moved on from Shy and Chaos.  During the time between the end of Own the Wind and Rough Ride Rosalie had moved on with another biker named Beck and another MC.

Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh, I have to admit his character is a bit vague in my memory bank,  it's somewhere in my memory bank that Snap had a thing for Rosalie but it's not at the forefront of my mind.  However, we find out very quickly what Rosalie means to Snapper after Rosalie is put in danger.

After the negative part of the MC world enters into Rosalie's world she's done with that world.  After this event she also realized why she is so drawn to the MC boys and what void it is filling for her.  Rosalie is determined to get away from the MC, but Chaos always takes care of one of their own.

Snapper has a bit of work to convince Rosalie to take a leap on him and come back into the fold.

"Life, Rosie," he said gently, " is not goin' it alone.  It's about finding the right people to share it with who will make it better when it's good and be there to hold you steady when it's not."

I have to admit that this is the first time I will EVER say this about a Kristen Ashley book,  but I found this novella too quick paced for me.  That often can come up for me with other novellas but that has never ever came up in the same sentence with Kristen Ashley novella or not.

It has been quite awhile since I was in the Chaos world, but normally when I pick up a book within a series I can catch up when the author throws some summaries and reminder points within the story.  But this time I felt like that was missing a bit and I felt quite lost with all the nuances of the Chaos world.  Sure I remember all the past characters but the details of the war are a bit rusty for me and even after reading this they still are.   I think with this novella it's assumed that we are up to date current with all that is Chaos.  So if you are not, like myself then some details with by hazy for you.  Heck maybe this is just another reason to re-read or listen to the first books within the series.  :)

Once I brush up on all the missing details of Chaos, then I will be ready this summer of 2018 where we get the next book within this series: Wild Like the Wind.  I'm super pumped for this one, can't wait for Hound's story and to have more from Chaos.

3 . 5 Dreams can come true thumbs up!

About Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing's changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
