About the Authors
Marni Mann:
Bestselling author Marni Mann knew she was going to be a writer since middle school. While other girls her age were daydreaming about teenage pop stars, Marni was fantasizing about penning her first novel. She crafts sexy, titillating stories that weave together her love of darkness, mystery, passion, and human emotions. A New Englander at heart, she now lives in Sarasota, Florida, with her husband and their two dogs, who have been characters in her books. When she’s not nose deep in her laptop, working on her next novel, she’s scouring for chocolate, sipping wine, traveling, or devouring fabulous books.
Gia Riley:
Author Gia Riley has been in love with writing romance since high school when she took her very first creative writing class. From the small but mighty state of Delaware, she’s a country girl at heart, traveling back to her roots in Pennsylvania as often as she can. My Drowning  Review . . .

I have loved absolutely every thing that Marni Mann has written so when given the chance to read more.  My only answer was ... ' Hell, yeah! '.

We're nothing more than two misunderstood people who aren't done fighting.  And we're not going to give up until we come out on top.

I have to admit that I didn't even read the synopsis. I just saw Marni Mann and said okay.  Which made me go in blind but I think that made the book even better because I had no expectations.

In Drowning we have to characters,  Adrian and Andi. Both whom are not where they want to be, but both are fighting to survive.  While Andi gets enough courage to run and be free she meets a kindred spirit.  This bond is instant.  Then tragedy strikes which makes these two turn to each other.  Their connection is strong but still vulnerable with both of their pasts lurking.

"I know what she sees in you.  I saw it the minute you started talking about her.  You're going to save her, Adrian.  I can see it in your eyes, and I can feel it in your words.  You're going to stop my girl from drowning. "

It's not an easy journey for these two but so worth it.

"He hurt you,  but he hasn't destroyed you,  Andi.  Your wounds will heal.  Now, let your spirit bleed."

Besides each other Andi has the two bestest friends that help her through.  While these friends are awesome I'm also a bit confused to where her family was?  Maybe I missed that part or that detail didn't stick in my memory bank.

"You're bigger than your fears. "

While on the run they also meet Russell who not only becomes a friend but also an ally.

I really did enjoy this story.  It's always hard to write raw stories that captivate a choice that many don't understand at times.  And I do think that Marni and Gia captured this angst well even the turmoil when it's easier to just give in than be free.

Now for the few tiny things that made me not love it as much as I could have are
1) I'm never a fan of martyrs, never.  So I could have done without that part, but thankfully it was quick and I will admit understandable.
2) Even though I felt Gia and Marni portrayed the emotions well, there was a very fine line between loving her ex and Adrian.  It was hard to fully believe the love at first sight with her still yearning over her old bf before things went cray cray.  Love at first sight or instant connection is always hard at the best of times, now add one fleeing from a bad relationship and one on the run it makes it even more difficult to see how it can be so instant.  But it was and it was only a fine line that I was able to get over quickly.
3) When things go bad with Adrian,  Andi turns to Russell but in reality she had no clue on what he did for a living besides be a bouncer, so there was that as well.

I know these three things look bigger but in reality there were small but I wanted to write the reasons I couldn't give it a 5/5.  After all that though it was still a strong 4 thumbs up!

4 Treading Water thumbs up!!!!

Lauren
