BLURB

One single summer changed them forever, and one moment of devastating silence destroyed it all.

Growing up with six siblings, Leo Preston has always struggled to find his voice.

While his brothers are loud, greedy, and somewhat obnoxious, Leo is forever the quiet one.

The thinker.

The listener.

He watches his life pass by as an outsider in his own world, absent and alone.

Lost.

Until he finds her.

For Leo, Mia KovΓ‘cs is like a prize, a gift wrapped in passion and devotion.

And she’s his—his very own secret he doesn’t have to share.

Together, they can overcome anything…

heartache and destruction, guilt and regret.

Mia gives Leo everything he didn’t know he needed,

including her fragile heart.

The only thing she doesn’t give him...

are secrets of her own.

Part 3 of a spin off series

My Leo Review . . .

I have loved the Preston brothers from the first time we met them in the More Than series.   Though it has been awhile I was quite excited to finally get the quiet Leo's story.

"It's as if the world's being split in two," I breathe out.
"I know." He pauses a beat.  Then: "It reminds me of you."

This story had some heartfelt story lines with current issues.  I always find when authors can inform the reader about these issues it gives the person dealing with them some power and the chance to know they are not alone in their struggles.

This book started at the present then went back in time so we got the whole back story of Leo and Mia.  I'm not sure if I loved that approach or not.   I have to admit after I immediately finished the book I was annoyed and frustrated with how Leo and Mia handled their issues.   Though after a few days and some time to digest the book I started to reflect a bit more and they started to grow on me.

My entire life I saw myself as a fighter simply because I was here, and I was smiling, and I was a believer of faith.
But I wasn't fighting for anything.
I wasn't even living for anything.
I was merely surviving.
Mia and Leo are TERRIBLE at communicating.  They both make a lot of assumptions and keep secrets.  I'm never a fan of secrets and assumptions in fiction or in real life really.    I did get why they both behaved the way they did.

He had guilt, and I had secrets.  And we avoided each other because we loved each other.  And that love for each other was greater than the love we had for ourselves.
My favorite parts were when Papa was in the scene as his character was something special.   I also loved seeing the other Preston's and especially with them growing up.  Though my favorite Preston relationship is between Lucy and Leo.

Leo has always been special and I felt the reason why was portrayed decently but I was still left wanting more to find out why Leo acted the way he did.   I felt like there was a brief explanation and I was left to jump to a conclusion but I don't know if it was the right conclusion.

I liked Mia and her struggles were portrayed well though her choices were hard to watch sometimes.   Thankfully Leo has a huge heart and was able to forgive and able to move on.

Realizing that over time my feelings for the book started to change for the positive I think this is one of those books I want to re-read again.  I also think I want to re-read the Preston's from the beginning to fully get immersed.  I think if I do that I will love this book much more.   Also the way it is written if you haven't read the first two in this series that is okay as no spoilers were given so you can still read those books and be surprised.

3 I adore Leo thumbs up!

Varsity Tiebreaker
Book 2 in The Varsity Series by Ginger Scott

Abby Cortez is a girl with goals, on the verge of turning eighteen and on the brink of stardom. Falling in love isn't just something she doesn't have time for, it's something she doesn't really believe in. Her rule? Date but never, ever fall.

Tory "Salvatore" D'Angelo loves falling in love...just not for real. The star basketball player at Allensville Public High gives his heart away one girl at a time then takes it back when he's ready to move on. No serious feelings, no serious pain.

They’re both good plans until Abby’s jaded heart gets all tangled up with Tory’s hopeless one. A friendly rivalry grows into friendship, and long talks start to blur the lines.
Just one problem—Abby’s current boyfriend is Tory’s twin brother, Hayden.

This is book 2 in The Varsity Series by Ginger Scott. You can start this series of stand-alone mature YA sports romances now with Varsity Heartbreaker. Book 3, Varsity Rulebreaker, releases in October.

Excerpt – Varsity Tiebreaker by Ginger Scott

Tory D’Angelo
I’m not sure if she realizes she’s trembling, but she is, so to stop her from digging any deeper in a place so public and so filled with the fumes of microwave pizza and Coke machines, I reach forward and rest my hand on top of hers. We both freeze immediately, and I’m pretty sure my palm is already sweating. Her gaze lifts to meet mine, but I don’t let go of her hand just yet. I don’t make this touch a big deal, even though it sort of is. That’s not why I did it, and I don’t want to cheapen it. With our eyes locked on one another, I let the air fill with the touch of silence just long enough for a ragged, emotional breath to fall from her lips.

“You have every right to feel the way you do,” I say.

“And how’s that?” she fires back. Her hand shifts under mine, but she doesn’t pull it away.

“You feel like your dad sees a business opportunity where he should see his daughter.”

She swallows and keeps her gaze on mine for a beat before finally leaning back, pulling her hand away and glancing off to her side. With a snort sniffle, she runs the sleeve of my brother’s hoodie across her eyes, erasing the tiny break that she let herself have.

I’m suddenly not hungry. I don’t think I have ever not been hungry, but I couldn’t eat the rest of my burrito now if I were forced at gunpoint. It’s not that I feel sick, but more that I feel…envious. I was fooling myself thinking that Abby was a passing crush I could dismiss easily. Two months of riding shotgun with her through all things June and Lucas was just long enough for me to get hooked on having her around. But while it’s my advice she’s listening to right now, it’s my brother’s fucking sweatshirt she’s dabbing her tears with.

“So, see you at the game?” I know my move to leave is abrupt, especially after she just bared part of her soul. If I stay, though, I’m going to say things I don’t mean just out of sheer self-preservation. This is precisely why I don’t do relationships, I just do flirting and hookups. Feelings…well, they fucking feel.

“What, did you change your mind and suddenly decide that nine-eighty bare-minimum wasn’t good enough?” Her nose wrinkles after her insult, but I think I get where it’s coming from. She just hit me with a major share, and now I’m bailing. Better to lash out. Her and I aren’t so different.

“Something like that,” I say, holding up my lunch trash as a wave goodbye.

Abby’s face shifts slightly, her wrinkled mouth and dimmed eyes morphing from the snarky expression that accompanies her tease to the look of a girl who just lost her brand new balloon to the sky.

“That hoodie…” I say as I walk backward, pointing toward the center of her chest. “Looks good on you.” I leave things there with a tight-lipped smile and a nod, a truce of sorts, not that Abby even knew we were in a battle. Hell, we weren’t. I’m the only one in a conflict, and it’s with my own damn self.

I manage to turn my back to her and toss my trash out without pausing to get one more little jab in to fully take things back to our version of normal. I think for now, I’d like to leave things nice. I wasn’t counting on her wanting to leave things that way, too, though.

“I’ll be sure to cheer for you, even if I’m wearing Hayden’s number,” she shouts.

I spin on my feet and give her a thumbs up, but keep moving away from her because if I turn around, I’ll keep trying to win her over. And she’s not mine to be won.

Part 2 of a series

My Varsity Review  . . .

I am always a fan of Ginger Scott and this is another sweet story.    I did like this story but it didn't quite hit me in the feels like some of her other books have.

We first meet Abby and Tory in Varsity Heartbreaker (#1).  I adored both of those characters from the beginning of this series, so I was excited to get their story.   I did like the story and how divorce can effect kids.  Though I didn't quite feel the connection of Tory and Abby right away.   In the beginning we get to see how Tory has had a crush on Abby but I wish we also got Abby's feelings for Tory as well.

Since we didn't get that POV and we have Abby enter the story with her dating Hayden, which felt out of no where. so it was a bit hard for to feel her feelings grow for Tory.   This story also had more of the impact of their parents then Tory and Abby.   Which I did like but I was also left wanting more from them as a couple.

The story is happening parallel at the same time as Varsity Heartbreaker with June and Logan, yet you don't realize it is at the same time.  In the end I did like it as it was sweet, but I was left wanting more from Abby and Tory.   I did like part about divorce and the effect on Abby, Tory and Hayden.  I loved the friendship of June and Abby.  So, far that is my favorite part of the series.  Tory's character was great and I liked that he's always noticed Abby even when no one else noticed.

I liked the relationship of Tory and Hayden and how they had to work their issues out to find their happiness with their new normal.    I am excited for more from this author and this series.

3 Sweet Thumbs up!

Off Plan by May Archer (Whispering Keys #1) #bookreview #MM #MMromance

Off Plan

(Whispering Key #1)

by

I came to Whispering Key for a job. That was all. To show the world Mason Bloom could be more than a small-town doctor living a medium-sized life.

Private doctor on a swanky island with a posh resort? Check.

But from the moment I set foot on this island, nothing went according to plan.

I didn’t expect to find the resort falling apart.
I didn’t expect the people here to be so charming and crazy and welcoming and real.
I didn’t expect legends about shipwrecks and buried treasure.
And I definitely didn’t expect Fenn Reardon, the island’s incredibly attractive, incredibly infuriating, incredibly male resident tour guide, to become the one person I can’t live without.

Thirty-five’s a bit late for me to realize I'm not straight, though, right? And I have big dreams that won’t fit on Whispering Key, anyway—dreams that do not include tying myself to a tiny island stuck in the past or to a man who refuses to think about the future.

My head’s telling me I have to leave Whispering Key…
My heart’s telling me there might be treasure on this island after all.

Part 1 in a new series

My Off Plan Review . . .

I absolutely adore this author and I have loved the Love in O'Leary series. So when I found out there is a new series and it is also slightly a spin off from The Secret #3 in the O'Leary series I jumped at the chance to read it. Mason Ross is Micah's brother, we got to meet him in The Secret but you do not have to had read the Love in the O'Leary series to read this new series. It's just a nice jumping off point, plus you get to see the brilliance of May Archer and all the quirkiness of O'Leary.

~Loafers opened the door but only took one giant step toward the beach before he looked down at his shoes and frowned, like he'd only then realized utter incompatibility of loafers and Whispering Key Beach. There was a metaphor there, if the poor sap could only see it.~

I didn't think we could meet more fascinating people than the people of O'Leary but the people of Whispering Keys are hysterical and I adore all of them. Mason is a bit of a stick in the mud but jumps at an opportunity to start fresh and make a name for himself. Fenn is in Whispering Keys but has a chip on his shoulder and Mason represents everything he hates.

Mason and Fenn have a bit of a love hate relationship but they both are what they need to find their true happiness. I loved that Mason's realization didn't get drawn out nor was there any shame, just surprise. I like the fact that it didn't cause him agony in that regards, as he had stress in other ways.

I loved Fenn's family and that the whole time they have been trying to help Fenn see his true potential but he needed Mason to help realize the truth. All the characters on this island are a hoot and I loved them all.

I loved Mason and Fenn's story and I can NOT wait for more as this series has so much potential and so many amazing characters, but it looks like Micah and Constantine will be making an appearance soon on Whispering Keys as well.

I loved how during the story there was a treasure hunt going on at the same time which was a great metaphor to both of their lives. We get to find many treasures during this story but there were also some details left unanswered that we hopefully will find out more as the series progresses.

Love this author and can't wait for more from her and this series.
