About BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

My name is Roman Cavenaugh and I’m kind of an asshole. Running a company isn't easy, especially when everyone expects you to fail, so being a jerk? It comes with the territory. I don't have time to mess around, and I sure as hell didn’t see her coming. Cara Hamilton—she was supposed to be off limits…a temporary employee brought in during my assistant’s maternity leave. But, in the blink of an eye, she became so much more. An obsession I couldn’t shake. So yeah, I may be an asshole, but now, I finally had a purpose, and soon, she would be mine. All’s fair in love and war…

My Behind Closed Doors Review . . .

I absolutely adore J.L. Berg so when I found out she wrote a spin off about Roman Cavenaugh I leapt at the chance to read this book.  We first met Roman in the Wall Duet where we got Jude Cavenaugh's story.  And I gotta tell you Roman was hard to love there but you knew that he had to have reasons for his douchebag ways.

From young Roman has been trying to prove his worth but to protect himself he builds quite the protective shield.  This shield to some comes across as Roman being an asshole but for the select few who get behind it know that Roman is hurting and has a big heart.

The moment Roman meets Cara it sets his world off axis.   He tries to stay away but he can't, even though Cara already has a live in boyfriend.

"I want you to be comfortable in your own skin, Cara," he said with ferocity.  " And, if that means wearing some old, frumpy sweater dress or a pair of jeans, then by all means, wear it.  No man, including Tyler, should ever dictate what you put on your body.  So, no, I didn't do this to hurt him.  I'm doing this to empower you.  Wear your clothes, or don't.  Just be happy-with your own self.  But, in the process, if I teach that jackass you live with a lesson, then so be it."

Cara Hamilton is a small town girl who followed her boyfriend to the big city of New York.   She tries to be herself but starts to lose herself to this city and this new New York lifestyle.  Even though she has a boyfriend it didn't stop her from having a crush on her new boss.

"And you deserve more than a good guy,"  he answered.  "You deserve the right guy.  Figure out the difference."
As Roman vows to get Cara at whatever the cost he doesn't realize that Cara was already making her own decisions on this matter.   Thankfully with Roman comes Jude, and with Jude comes Lailah, and with Lailah comes a nice dose of reality.

"Life isn't about comparing one's strife to another.  It's about making the most of what you've been given.  If I sat back and thought about all the hardships I've had to endure to get here . . . right here, it would be overwhelming.  Some days, it is overwhelming.  But I'm here.  I'm living, and I love my life.  That's what it's all about-loving your life."

" Do you love your life, Cara?"

Roman doesn't know how to be loved and feel worthy so it isn't an easy battle to love Cara and be loved in return.
"Just let her, Roman.  You and I both know that you'll try to fight it.  You'll convince yourself that you're somehow unworthy, and in the end, you'll walk away from what could be the love of your life.  Don't. Save both of you from a world of hurt, and just allow yourself to be loved."

Cara easily could have come across naive but instead she came across as strong and independent.  This combo thankfully is enough to get the walls down on Roman and allows everyone else to see all that Roman can be.

"He likes to pretend he's prickly and mean, but he's everything you raised him to be and more."
I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to love Roman but it didn't take long for him to win my heart.  Even when he still made poor choices.   I loved these two together.   They brought the best in each other out.  And thankfully we also got to see more of Jude and Lailah's HEA which only made this story better.

4 Worthy to Love Thumbs up!
