Hold Me Fast {McCullough Mountain 7}

by

It’s more than a mountain. It’s a love story generations long.

Maureen O’Leahey has always hoped for a family to love, but with so many men returning from a lost war, she finds life to be a bit less romantic than expected—until she stares in to the blue eyes of Frank McCullough. Though the odds are against them, Frank and Maureen can’t seem to keep their distance. Against her father’s wishes, Maureen falls for the boy trying so hard to make it as a man and Frank fights to keep every promise made to the fiery red head that’s captured his heart.

During difficult times, they find solace in each other. As Frank struggles to do right by his young bride and Maureen aches to be a good wife, they are taught the true value of patience and shown the strength of unconditional love in this memorable story of a devoted Irishman and an untamable woman with a remarkable spirit.

My Hold Me Fast Review ...

"I love your mother very much, Luke.  I may not always say it or show it, but that woman is the breath of this family and my soul."
I have to admit that this series is one of my favorites.  I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Maureen & Frank's story, but I LOVED it!   Their story was perfect and a great way to finish off the series.

In the first part of the book it's about how Maureen and Frank became a couple.  It's here we get to really understand how this amazing family came to be.  Maureen's a bit certifiable but that is one of the reasons that I love her.  She's strong, determined and knows what she wants.

Staring at the heavens he opened his hands in a pleading gesture.  "She's a lunatic, isn't she?  You sent me a faulty model."  Grumbling, he marched after her.  "Maureen"

Right from 17 years old Maureen has known who she is what she wants.  Thankfully Frank is on board with this plan.   As we already knew from the rest of the series that Frank is a misunderstood quiet man, but also he's the cement of this beautiful family.

"You are a romantic soul, Frank McCullough.  I'll not tell the other boys to protect your reputation."

It may have been love at first sight for these two but it wasn't an easy road.  Especially since Maureen's such a spit fire.

. . . Apparently, sex was why men got married, according to her sisters.  Maureen wasn't so sure.  Her father had always said a man was incomplete without a wife but once married, he was finished. . .

"You think I have nothin' better to do than wait around so you can legally take my virginity?  You can think again, Mr. McCollough.  I have standards and they aren't the sort that crumble for some blue eyed, silver-tongued Irishman wantin' to put his lips on me.  I'll be expectin' a gentleman, next time I see you, if your lips will be gettin' anywhere near me-"

"I have a healthy appetite for beautiful women, love.  There's nothin' wrong with that."
"Aye, well if you wantin' this woman you'll lose your taste for all others, do you understand?"

Loving an Irish woman isn't always easy but Frank is up for the challenge.

Gah! I loved these two together and it was such a beautiful journey to see, even through their hardships.  For them, these trying times did nothing but strengthen the love between them.

"You undo me, Maureen.  Every knot inside of me tightens when you're not around as soon as you're near all the tension unravels and goes away.  How do you make that happen?"

After we get a good feeling about the love of Maureen and Frank we move on to part two in the book, where we wait to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.   In this part we get to see more from all of the other McCullough's.  We get to see how their lives proceed after the end of book 6.

"It doesn't matter what you are,"  Kelly said.  "You married an Irish woman.  They're all sweet psychopaths.  Best to do as she says and keep your balls."

It was great to re-visit all of them and especially to see how Luke, Tristan and Sheilagh fair out with their new addition.   This story was beautiful and perfect.  I'm so sad to see the end of this series. However, Lydia Michaels is one of my faves, so anything she writes I will be diving in.  It may not be the McCullough's, but I'm sure it will be just as amazing.   The McCullough Mountain series is  definitely a recommended read, as it will fill a big place in your heart after you read this series.

"It's a sacred thing we celebrate by the water today.  With the passing of time, your skin has changed, but your hearts have only grown fuller.  What was once chaste, now knows no bounds.  There is no faking a love such as this, no truth forsaken in the presence of such affection.  And as years go by, tears will sometimes come, but I have faith there will be more joy than sorrow, so long as you hold fast to each other and never let go of the incredible love you share."

In this third book in the sexy, suspenseful “The Secret Life of Amy Bensen” series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, we meet Amy’s brother Chad—and the woman who either loves him or wants him dead.

Six years ago, Chad’s hunt for a dangerous treasure turned deadly when his family home was set on fire, his parents killed. Faking his and his sister Amy’s death to protect her from further retaliation, he set her up in a new life with a friend’s help, letting her believe he’d died.

But now the men who hired Chad to find the treasure have found him, imprisoning and torturing him to learn where it’s hidden. A dark-haired beauty named Gia helps him escape, promising him access to his worst enemy. And as he tries to unravel the deep secrets of the past, he starts falling for her…only to discover she’s not what she seems.

Unable to trust anyone, Chad focuses on only two things: protecting his sister Amy and getting revenge. Is love even possible in the midst of heartache?

Excerpt #2
I join her at the sink, where she’s struggling to get the bandage wrapped around her palm. I grab her hand and take over and our eyes lock and collide, the air instantly thick with a huge dose of lust-filled distrust.
“You’re going to get caught in here,” she warns softly, as if she can’t quite find her voice.
“It’s a Walmart in Texas,” I tell her. “They’re happy if you manage to show up with pants on.”
She laughs despite an effort to stop herself. “I suppose so. I’m just nervous about getting attention we don’t need.”
“We’re fine.” I fit some tape over the bandage on her hand and dump the supplies back inside the basket sitting on the counter.
“Right,” she agrees. “I know we are.”
She doesn’t sound convinced, and I can’t seem to quell my need to convince her otherwise. “Don’t let my getting captured fool you. It took him years to find me. I’m good at what I do. He won’t find me again. That means he won’t find you.”
“Until you’re done with me,” she murmurs, cutting her gaze away from me, and for the first time since that bedroom in East Austin, fear radiates off her. I tell myself to let it go, that she could be working me over, but I can’t seem to care.
I slip a finger under her chin and force her gaze to mine. “No matter what your intentions were when this started tonight, if you help me, really help me, I’ll make sure you stay protected.”
“I don’t work for him, and I don’t know why I’m even saying that again. I know I can’t convince you.”
“I told you. Help me. I’ll help you. Okay?”
“Yes. Okay.” She’s not convinced, and the truth is, neither am I. I stayed away from people until Meg, Amy included, for a reason. People die when they’re near me, but I’m not telling Gia that, and I let my hand fall away, settling both on my hips.
She hugs herself and for several beats we simply stare at each other, until she wets her lips, and I try not to look at her mouth, or think about kissing her, but I fail. I think about it. In vivid, I-want-to-fuck-her detail.
“This is what you do?” she asks. “How you live? Always looking over your shoulder? Is that how I have to live?”
“I, like others in the organization I work for, find what no one else can find.”
“For a price.”
“Yes. For a price.”

Tracker's End (Wind Dragons MC #3)

 by

The third in a sexy romance series from the bestselling author of Saxon and Toxic Girl about the bad boys of the Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club and the women who fall in love with them.

Tracker is everything I’ve ever wanted.

I see him. I’ve watched time change him.

I’ve been patient, but he still hasn’t noticed me. Not the way I want him to. The more time I spend with the MC, the more I understand.

When you want something, you have to take it. You have to fight for it.

And Tracker is more than worth fighting for…

My Tracker's End Review ...

Finally Tracker's story.  From the beginning of this series I have loved Tracker and it felt like I've been waiting forever for his story.

From the moment Tracker met Lana he was a goner, unfortunately he had a wee bit of baggage to get rid of first.  However, his baggage wasn't so happy about this choice.

Lana has liked Tracker from the start but he's everything she shouldn't want and he also already has a girlfriend.   Plus Lana has her own secrets and doesn't know how to find balance between her world and reality.

The minute Tracker kicks his baggage to the curb he's plotting on how he can win Lana over.   Lana wants Tracker but doesn't trust his new intentions as her insecurities start to take over.

" . . . Tracker's a goner when it comes to you.  It's good though.  He deserves someone like you."

Love Tracker and all that he is.  Such a softie that Tracker and when he knows what he wants he will do anything to make it happen.  But will their worlds be to different to make work?  Tracker has to work hard to win over Lana.
"I would do anything to protect you Lana, to protect this."  It was in this moment I lost my heart to him.

Once Tracker starts to get what he wants he fears that if Lana truly sees him that she won't want all that comes with him.

"You know it's all I want right now.  I don't want you to see something you don't like and want to run.  I need you tied to me.  Bound.  In deep."

The more Tracker wins me over,  Lana's doubts and insecurities start to drown her and lessen my like for her.   She can't trust in what she has so she questions everything even though Tracker hasn't really done anything to warrant it.  Or if he did do something all she had to do is ask instead of getting her knickers in a bunch.

I know he didn't do anything, but why do I feel like damage has been done anyway?  (Argh!)
These men of the Wind Dragons all have soft hearts, but that should be pretty easy for them since their MC world seems to be pretty tame compared to others.  I actually quite like the idea of this series but I keep craving more oomph, depth and darkness from these MC brethren.
"This will never be done with.  Never.  We're not perfect, but as long as we aren't giving up, then fuck it, we can make it work."

Even though I would still consider this more MC lite to medium I did like it,  how can you not with Tracker as the main man.  Will I continue with this series?  Yes, I need to know what happens to the rest of the MC, as this series does have tons of potential and keeps getting a bit better with each book.   Favorite part of the book?  Tracker.  Least favorite?  Lana's doubts and insecurities.

My Johnny Review ...

When Cardeno C. contacted me with the opportunity to review this book CC had me at  MM lion shifters.

What could be more hot than two lion shifters going at it?  Not alot. :)

Hugh's the Premier of the pack.  His power is so powerful that he needs a Siphon to help carry his reserve so he doesn't overload and die.  Unfortunately he has taken his Siphon for granted.

The Siphon is tired of being invisible so tries to take care of his own choices for once with near devastating results.   When Hugh realizes that he has neglected his Siphon he vows to make a change.  First the Siphon gets a name ... Johnnie.  Then second he gets to know Johnnie.  And the more he gets to know him the more he likes what he sees.

For Hugh sex is just about the release of hormones and semen.  For the first time in a decade he experiences something so much more with Johnnie.  For Hugh and his pack they are animals first humans second, but they have a thing or two to learn from the humans. Like the notion of the emotion love.  Hugh's first priority has always been his pack but once he falls for Johnnie he starts to realize that with this connection he gets so much more.

"They need their Premier.  I need my Siphon."

I loved Hugh and Johnnie together.  They were made for each other and were each others ying to their yang.  I loved how Cardeno C's mind works and we get introduced to another world where love is love no matter what.

Adored it! Adored Hugh and Siphon.  I can't wait to read or hear more from this Siphon Collection.  Yeah!!!!

With Audio it's such a different experience than reading the book.  Sometimes it makes it better and sometimes it makes it worse.  With Johnnie I thought I was good experience.  The only beef for me was with the narration of Hugh in regards to Johnnie he sound more exasperated at times then thoughtful or loving, but the more the story goes the less exasperation happens, and the more I get into the voices of Hugh and Johnnie.  When reading naughtier books in public on my kindle I don't tend to feel guilty about it.  When I was listening to the Audio in public and I would get to a naughtier part and I would blush furiously thinking that everyone has to know what I'm listening to.  I've only listened to a few Audio books, but for some reason after this one I'm officially hooked.  Can't wait for more.

Recipe for Temptation (Madewood Brothers #4)

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

She's the woman he loves to hate.

And more than anything, she wants her tall, hot, and brooding boss naked in her bed. Now, on a Hawaiian vacation with her family, she's desperately trying not to think about how he'd sound whispering dirty things in her ear.

He's the man she can't have...or can she?

Cole Murphy keeps himself locked down, away from the press and out of the spotlight. Still haunted by a traumatic childhood, his ability to trust has been decimated. Penn, with her sexy body and confidence, is the only person able to drag him out of his shell. Which is why he crashes her vacation and accepts her proposition for no-strings sex. My Recipe for Temptation Review ...

It has felt like forever since this journey started with these Madewood Men.  And finally we get Cole's book.  Yeah!

The first three books were basically Penn and Cole's foreplay while in Recipe for Temptation they finally get to act on their wants and desires.

Since the beginning Penn and Cole have had a love/ hate relationship, but we all knew why.  Poor Cole, he might be a successful chef but really he's just a broken boy.  So, letting people in,  is not his strength, but there is something about Penn that he can't let go.

Penn has always come across as a strong loyal woman and keeps these men on their toes.  However, who she is now, is not who she is when it comes to her family.  Scared that her family won't love her truly for who she is, she portrays the old wallflower she used to be.   Cole knows that Penn needs help with her family, so he bombards her family vacation to help her win the elusive family vacation trophy.

With this new pact to win it causes them to deal with their underlying attraction to one other.  The Penn he adores is still there enough to make an appearance convincing Cole to have a 'what happens in Hawaii stays in Hawaii' sexual relationship.  But once those flood gates come open all hell breaks loose with their emotions.

Penn has a hard time being who she really is with her family,  causing the one person who stuck up for her to leave.

He'd walked away, because she'd given him no indication that she needed him.  But she did need him.  With a heavy sigh, she sunk into her chair and faced her family.

Not a fan of Penn's wallflower ways when she was so kick ass and strong in the other three books.

What these two have to realize is that family isn't as it always seems to be, and sometimes true family is not always blood.

Family wasn't about blood.  Or challenges.  Or rivalries.  Family was about the people who loved you no matter what.  The circle of people who supported you.

When shit hit the fan for these two, I don't know why Cole had so much to make up for, when he showed his heart.   To me it was Penn who needed to do more of the apologizing in this scenario but what's a romance book without the grand gesture.  :)

I have to admit that I'm a bit sad to see this series end.  They always have a great combination of heat and story.  Did I like this story?  Yes, but it was not my favorite of the four.  What's my favorite thing about this series?  They are easy to read with a great balance of passion and substance.  As well as nothing too over dramatic within the story.  Can't wait to read more from Gina Gordon.

Make You Burn (Deacons of Bourbon Street #1) by Megan Crane ~ #bookreview #MC

Make You Burn (Deacons of Bourbon Street #1)

by

Meet the Deacons of Bourbon Street, bad boy bikers who are hell on wheels—and heaven between the sheets. Megan Crane revs up an irresistible new series co-written with Rachael Johns, Jackie Ashenden, and Maisey Yates.

Sean “Ajax” Harding’s oaths are inked into his skin. Once second-in-command of the Deacons of Bourbon Street motorcycle club, he left New Orleans to protect the brotherhood, and only the death of his beloved mentor, Priest Lombard, could lure him back. Walking into the old hangout gives him a familiar thrill—especially when he gets an eyeful of the bar’s delectable new owner. A wild ride with her is just the welcome Ajax needs. Then he realizes that she’s Priest’s daughter, all grown up and totally off limits.

Sophie Lombard loved her father, not his lifestyle. She’s done with bikers . . . until Ajax roars into town—arrogant, tough, and sexy as ever. And although he treats her like the Catholic schoolgirl he once knew, Sophie’s daydreams tend to revolve around sin. With the very real possibility of heartbreak looming, Sophie knows better than to get too close to an outlaw. But every touch from Ajax is steamier than the Louisiana bayou—and heat like this may just be worth getting burned.

Part 1 in a new collaborated series

My Make You Burn Review ...

I'm such a sucker for MC books that I was hoping I was going to love this one.  Sadly that didn't happen.  I liked it enough but it didn't wow me what so ever.

"Funerals and dramatic wills and Ajax taking an old lady.  I'd cry a little a bit if I cared, I really would."

Sophie Lombard is the princess of the Deacons MC  & Sean 'Ajax' Harding is the exiled old VP of the Deacons MC.  Now that Sophie's dad and the president of the MC dies it brings Ajax back to his home, that he never wanted to leave in the first place.

Sophie is the little girl who is now a full fledge woman with daddy issues.  As she always felt like the MC meant more to him than her.  So when she hooks up with Ajax she fears it will happen all over again.

~ Sophie might not have had the slightest idea what she was doing with this man or what it all meant, but she did know this:  if you were already falling, there was no point debating the how or the why.  There was only controlling the landing.~

Ajax sees a woman that catches his attention than lo and behold she happens to be the daughter of the old president.  Which should be forbidden but he's MC and makes his own rules.  So he takes her hard and forever in about 3.0 seconds.   Their whole relationship basically happened over 4 days, which was a bit too quick for the supposed depth of the emotions between the two.

"My little junkie.  I'll be your heroin."

What I didn't like about this book, was the predictability of the story and the attempt for the characters to be more robust and raw.  But in the end the relationship was supposed to be hot and heavy and love at first site but it came out to rushed and over the top.  The MC part felt like MC lite compared to other MC books.  What I did like about the book was the potential of the book and the idea of it.  This series has potential and I like the fact that it is a collaborated series with four authors.  Will I read more from this series?  Yes, as I'm curious how the other authors will do with Blue, Cash and Prince.  This was my first Megan Crane book and it was okay experience,  but I would like to definitely read more from her before I have any real opinion.

2.5 to 3 MC lite thumbs up!

thumbs upthumbs up . 5
