Out of Frame (In Focus #3)

by

Romance trades the open road for the high seas in the latest from the author of Focus on Me and Trust the Focus...

Perpetually shy, Quinn Mathers is content to remain in the shadow of his brash best friend Jess Hartman. But before their college graduation, he and Jess have planned one last hurrah: a spring break Caribbean cruise.

And it won’t be just any cruise. On board are members of the reality show Trip League, which follows young twenty-somethings on adventures around the world. Since the show’s beginning, Quinn has been fascinated by J. R. Butler, with his amazing body, warm eyes, and killer grin. Unfortunately, he’s straight—or so the world thinks.

At nineteen, J. R. signed a contract to play straight for the show, and there’s no way to get out of it now. Yet with each passing day, Quinn and J. R. find it harder to keep their hands off each other and to keep out of the camera’s frame. But when the lens finally focuses on them, J. R. must decide if he’s willing to risk his career by admitting his bisexuality, and Quinn must determine if he's bold enough to stand in the spotlight with the man of his dreams...

Part 3 of a series but could be read as a standalone

My Out of Frame Review . . .

I absolutely adore this series and Megan Erickson.  This is technically part of a series but could be read as a standalone.  Quinn Mathers is the shy ginger but the ever present best friend to Jess Hartman, whose Colin's little sister.  Colin is from Focus on Me, book 2 in this series.  Yes, that information helps but again it doesn't make or break the experiences knowing that.

Quinn is like the perfect kid who does everything by the book.  Which is a gift and a curse for poor Quinn.  He's just about to graduate and is feeling the pressure of always doing the right thing.  With one final hoorah before graduation, Quinn and Jess go on a cruise vacation where their favorite stars of a reality TV show are in attendance.

J.R. (Jay) Butler is living a lie, but his reasons for this were worthy, as he's trying to help his family out.  However this secret is starting to weigh him down.  At first keeping his sexual preference a secret made sense but now its strangling him, especially when he sets his eyes on a handsome blue eyed ginger.

"Complicated doesn't mean it's impossible."

At first J.R tries to stay away from this young man but fails.  Quinn has the biggest crush on J.R. but knows its pointless since J.R is straight.   Fates are aligned for these two making them both question their futures and their personal wants and needs.  As soon as Quinn realizes that his crush may be reciprocal he wants to go all in but Jay's contract and family commitments are getting in the way.

With one leap they decide to enjoy the time they have on this cruise knowing that their time is limited.  These moments are freeze framed between these two men, but both of them have to make some pretty big decisions if they want a future.

You know what I like about this series?  It's the little things that are added in, that give the stories so much more depth instead of just a sweet love story.  Each character has their own relatable personal struggles which makes the stories so much more heartfelt.  Yes I know most in the romance genre try to do this as well, but with Megan Erickson she delivers.   Her characters are strong and the connections are real.  And I love how she ties all the characters in within the series even though all the stories can be read as standalones.

I adored Quinn and Jay together. I thought they made a great couple and I loved the leap of faith they took on each other.  I also loved all the side characters as they also helped make this story.  My fingers are crossed that Levi will get his own story too.

4 Freeze Frame Thumbs up!
