“I wish I could stop this one moment, capture it, because I know it won’t last. Because a guy like him doesn’t stay in a woman’s life. He breezes through and leaves only havoc behind.”
From New York Times Bestselling Author, J.C. Reed, comes a new standalone novel.
Kellan Boyd always gets what he wants—except that one infuriating city girl who bumped into his new chick magnet sports car, dared to call him a jerk, and threw his pity check in his face.
Fast forward three months later.
When Ava Cross suddenly knocks on his door in the middle of a storm, soaking wet and in dire need of help, he’s determined to settle old scores and finally get her between the sheets where she belongs.
Ava knows Kellan is a complex man with a dark past and a wild reputation he can’t deny. Forced to stay, Ava begins a desperate search for the truth about the one man she wants to despise and quickly discovers that the passion she feels for him isn’t just deep…it’s dangerous to her heart.
Kellan is a beautiful distraction. When the traps of her own weakness stand in the way, Ava is faced with one choice only: peel off the layers of a man who's a wild cowboy at heart.
Author’s note – Beautiful Distraction is a full-length, standalone novel with no cliffhanger. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Beautiful Distraction Review . . .
This was my first J.C Reed book. I've been meaning to read one for a dog's age but never got around to it (insert frown face here). Now given the opportunity to review this book I jumped at the chance to finally read one of her books. Especially after reading the synopsis.
Ava Cross job is being a journalist but what she's great at is being a loyal friend. When it comes to her friend Mandy she always caves to what Mandy needs. So when Mandy wants to get a chance to meet the band Mile High she drags Ava to come with her. Unfortunately for Ava, duty calls and she's forced to go back to work, but that's not before some jerk hits her car and expects her to basically bow at this feet. Even though said jerk is super sexy and good looking but he's an ass which makes Ava want nothing to do with him.
That being said it doesn't stop Ava from day dreaming about the hot jerk. Now months later after Ava wins tickets to the Mile High concert, Mandy forces her to go on a road trip to the concert. Even though that's the last thing Ava wants to do, she goes anyways. Now while on the road trip there's as storm and a short cut leading her to knock on a complete stranger's door in the middle of no where. But this was no stranger. Instead it was the home of the jerk that hit her car.
At first this man's inner jerk made another grand appearance but then he soon softened a bit and Ava finds herself staying a week with the guy.
He's a beautiful distraction from reality with the prospect of having one's heart broken.
Kellan Boyd doesn't trust easily. He's also a bit heart broken causing him to be an asshole to others. When he first runs into Ava's car he's shocked when she doesn't fawn all over him. Months later he still can't get her out of his head, so he finds a way to find her.
Now with his dream literally at his doorstep he's slow to trust but he wants to, as there is something about Ava that draws him in. It takes awhile but Kellan finally wears Ava down with his charm and crass ways. Ava usually goes for the safe bet after she got hurt in college but Kellan finds a way to get under her skin and in her heart.
Their relationship was interesting and hard to take at times with Kellan's flip flopping between asshole and sincere. I wanted to like them so much more but his back and forth made me wary. Once Ava gave in, their chemistry was through the roof but when the end was near instead of communicating a lot of assumptions were had on Ava's part and a few untruths were coming to the surface where Kellan is concerned.
For these two it may have started on wrong footing but it ended the right way. I did like Ava and Kellan together but separately I had some issues with both of them. Like I said previously, Kellan's back and forth was distracting and then all of a sudden he was over the moon and gone for Ava which felt a bit out of no where. As for Ava, she was strong but a bit stubborn with also some flaky characteristics making her not as loveable as she could have been for me.
After reading this will I read more from J.C. Reed? Absolutely. Was this my favorite romance book? No, but it was still quite good. I liked the meat of the story but some details made me hum and haw a bit.
3 Cowboy to Rockstar to Cowboy thumbs up!
