My All Would Up Review ...

This is the tenth book in this series but could be read as a standalone.  In this book we have Tucker Cassidy, one of Grant Cassidy's brothers and the pitcher for the St. Louis Rivers. As well as Dr. Aubry Ross who also happens to be the St. Louis Rivers Owner's daughter.

Oh! Those Cassidy men.  *sigh* 

Tucker is many things and one thing he doesn't have a problem with is settling down and dating.  He's tried it a couple of times but it hasn't worked out.  So when he meets Aubry everything changes.

However, Aubry is an 'all work no play' type of girl.  So giving in to Tucker is not part of the plan. 

"Because I don't have time for a guy.  There's work and study and those are my priorities."

Her reluctance to date Tucker was starting to get a bit annoying so thankfully she finally gave in.   But how could you not when Tucker woos you.  Tucker has to work very hard to convince Aubry to give them a chance.

"You have to make time for the things that are important, Aubry."

 But once she gives in he finds out that Aubry has a different sides to her.   Where she has some fun and naughty hidden in her very work orientated package.

Once these two get together is was almost too smooth sailing and lacked some oomph between them.  Their chemistry was good but them as a couple didn't completely grab me.  At times they were more forgettable then memorable.   But we all know that it can't be all smooth sailing so now they have to communicate and fight for more if they want this to work.

Is sports romance one of my guilty pleasures?  Yes.  Did this fill my fix?  Some what, but not completely.  Do I love this series?  I started to at the beginning but it seems to be losing its steam as a series, where the books are too formulatic and predictable which makes them a bit lack luster.   Did I like Tucker and Aubry?  They were decent but didn't wow me.  Do I love the Cassidy men?  Absolutely and I can't wait for more from them.  Is this my favorite series?  No, but I still like it enough for me to continue with the series.

My A Pound of Flesh Review . . . 

I have had this on my TBR for quite awhile but I postponed it because from the synopsis it felt too close to Hard Time by Cara Mckenna.  But the more I kept hearing about this book I had to give it a go and I'm very glad that I did. 

What this book had which made my day was a strong heroine and a very sexy misunderstood brooding hero.

"No, Carter.  This is my class, not yours.  So do what I ask or leave.  The choice is yours." 

He was still astounded that she'd spoken to him the way she had.  No one spoke to Carter like that.  No. One. Fucking. Ever.

Kat Lane is overcoming her fears and paying a promise by teaching at the prison.  Even though her nightmares are back she feels like she's making a difference.  Unfortunately she's going at this battle alone when she doesn't have the support from her mom or all of her friends. 

Wes Carter has had a shit life so he makes do with what he has.  Owing a debt can come in many forms but for Wes it comes in the form of prison.  With long haunted memories and not a lot of hope Carter finds himself angry and full of rage. 

"Really? Demanding a pound of flesh to pay off a monetary debt is fair?"

"I know what it's like to pay that word off because you have no other choice but to see it through because you love that person so much it would be a tragedy if you didn't."

Carter needs the help of Kat if he wants to make parole but it's a lot harder then he thinks especially when his past barrels into his present and possible future.  Now that Carter has some hope, he has to come to terms with societal assumptions and pay his dues for bad past choices.  He can't change the past but he can make his future better, especially with Kat in his corner. 

"Criminal. There's no amount of good that erases that shit.  It's easier to live up to people's expectations than try to change them.  It avoids disappointment for all involved."

I did like the idea of the story and how it all tied together.  I loved the idea of Carter and Kat and all its forbidden elements but the actuality of this relationship at times left me wanting more. 

"The thing is, I might not have flowery fucking words or anything, but I'm . . . I'm serious about you."

Their relationship is supposed to be kept secret if he wants to stay on parole and for her to keep her job but they were sure loud and proud about their relationships for everyone to see.

"You're everything to me, Peaches.  You always have been.  Always.  You're the best thing I've ever had in my life."

Oh boy!. Kat's mother was a sanctimonious righteous bitch with no rights to her opinions with her own history.   It's always easier going through life with the support of your family but for poor Kat and Carter they have to fight for everything if they want to be together.  Damn the consequences. 

My only real beefs were their flaunting of their forbidden relationship and the lack of follow through on her changing jobs and how the whole transition went down. The majority of the book was about Carter's parole and the stipulations that went with it. As well as Carter's cousins and the business and that story line. Both story lines could have had a much more pivotal effect in regards to Kat and Carter's relationship. Their relationship was supposed to be forbidden but all of a sudden it all works out and their are no consequences. It felt rushed and swept under the rug which left that part anti-climatic. As well as the story lines of Jack, Riley, Diane and Ward felt unfinished so hopefully we will get to see them throughout the series.

Did I like this book?  Yes. It started with such great momentum but fell a bit for me near the end.  Did I like Carter and Kat?  Definitely.  Did I feel the other characters were well developed?  Yes, but there were some story lines that didn't feel complete to go with some of these characters.   Did this book have flow and continuity? At times but there were a few time line errors that threw me off.  Favorite part of the book?  The parallels of what they were reading together and how it matched what was going on with their lives.  Will I continue with this series?  Yes, can't wait for Max's story.

My Love and Always Review . . .  

This novella was basically a large epilogue to Kat and Carter's A Pound of Flesh.  Now that Kat and Carter are at a place where they're happy and moving forward, they want to share it with the world, but not all are as happy with it as they are with it. 

Carter's finally feeling comfortable in his own skin, while Kat's making amends with her mother and friends.   Even though life isn't always easy these two have each other to make it through.  I loved seeing more into Kat and Carter and their HEA.

Sweet follow up! Sweet Story! Sweet Couple.  Can't wait for more from this series.

My Strong Enough Review ...

"What constitutes enough?"
"It's enough when you can't bear the thought of life without that person.  It's enough when you can't let them go, or when you'd cross an ocean just to be with them.  Anything less than that is just  . . . less. It isn't enough."

It has been forever since I read a M. Leighton book so I was glad for this opportunity to read this one.  Then it starts off with the prologue.  Wow! What a prologue!  Then all of a sudden it felt like I was reading a completely different book from the prologue.  I knew that it would come full circle but it was a shock the difference from the prologue to chapter 1.  But I'm a patient girl so I continued to read and I ended up quite liking the story.

Muse needs help so she enlists the bounty hunter Jasper King to help her find her father.   Jasper King has an agenda so he needs Muse to make it all happen.  What he didn't expect is to have Muse make him feel things that he has never felt before. 

"What's more important than safety?
"Making a life, making the choices, having the things that are worth keeping safe.  Those things are more important.  If not for them, what would be worth saving?"

The chemistry between these two is immediate and strong.  It can't be denied.  Damn the consequences, as both know going in there is going to be damage.  The question is though, who is going to be damaged?  Muse or Jasper or both?

"Me? What did I do?"
"You dug too deep.  You have too much.  Now there's no going back, whether you want to or not.  It's too late.  You'd have to leave here to escape me."

As they sizzle the sheets a connection is formed.  But when reality comes back into their little bubble who is going to come out unscathed?  Did I like this book?  Yes, quite a lot.  Did I like Muse and Jasper as a couple? Yes, but their connection was too quick it was basically four days long.  Which wasn't enough to truly emphasis the strength of their emotions.  Did I like Muse?  For the most part yes.  At times she was a bit gullible and predictable but otherwise she was quite strong and feisty.  Did I like Jasper?  Yes I did my his inner turmoil was a gift and a curse for me.  It's what makes you fall for him especially in the end, but at the same time it drags on too long in the middle of the story. Will I read more from this series? Definitely yes.  Can't wait for Rogan's story.

Wicked Fall is a spin off series from Shaken, Not Stirred (Last Call #5).  You don't have to read the Last Call series to love this book.  However, it does help a bit to meet Woolf before and understand him a bit more.  Woolf Jennings happens to be the little brother of Tenn Jennings.  Like his older brother Tenn, he too wants more than what his lineage had destined for him. 

Woolf Jennings may be the brother left to run the family business but he's also a man who likes his kink when it comes to sex.  Since he has been in college he has been full steam ahead in the avenue of sex.  So, it makes perfect sense to open up a night club/ secret sex club on his property with his best friend and fellow kink lover Bridger. 

Now that the club is open, all is well in Woolf's world, until he comes face to face with his 'what if' of all those years past.  His old best friend's little sister Callie Hayes.

Callie Hayes has always loved Woolf but after being once rejected she hangs up that dream.  She settles for simple and easy until that too explodes in her face.  Now back home she wants to find herself again, but will seeing Woolf again help or hinder this new Callie?

"Don't ever call yourself 'pathetically dull' again because that was single-handedly the sexiest, most exciting thing I've ever seen in my life."

Once Woolf sees Callie again he gets conflicted with coming to terms of his personal preferences and the sweetness of wanting Callie.  But he thinks he can't have both. 

" . . . But man, hear me when I say . . . you cannot stand beside me in my loneliness forever.  It balances me, but partner . . . it will destroy you one day."


"I always wanted you, Callie,"  he says, and I hear truth in his words.  "I just didn't think I should have you.  Big difference."


"You heart's tied up big time, man," he says sagely.  "It would appear so," I mutter.

I did like the idea of Woolf and Callie but at times the couple was a bit lack luster.   Woolf was supposed to be strong, sexy and kinky but his conflict with himself and the possibility of Callie at times made me not love him to the full extent I could have.  Callie for me was just meh.  She wasn't bad or anything but there just wasn't anything super exciting about her that made me fall in love with her.

But let me tell you though that scene in the cabin.  HAWT!

"Just know that what's happening right here . . . right now . . . it's nothing but an experience.  It doesn't change the way I feel about you."

For most of the book Callie was just meh and then all of a sudden she turned super weak, which made her even less endearing in my eyes.

"I'll give him up."  (Ugh! Why? Weak heroines. . . argh!)  


"Because I promised my father I wouldn't."  (My bad I thought she was an adult not a child)

Did Callie and Woolf have chemistry?  Yes.  But their emotional relationship was not evolving at the same pace as their sexual relationship. Which made Woolf come across as a bit of a douche at times when their relationship was supposed to go to the next level and all he wanted was to get his rocks off.  So when their emotional peak came, their emotional relationship felt rushed but their sexual relationship was through the roof.


Thankfully Callie eventually finds a backbone and Woolf . . . well he finally sees the light.    Thank goodness for that, but my question is what happened with Colton?  That storyline seems to be left unfinished.  Hopefully it will be finished in the next books in this series.   I'm excited for Cain's story but I was hoping the next story was going to be Bridger.  I guess we will have to wait a bit longer for that one.  

This is one of those times where I liked the idea of the story more than the actual story.   If this book was based solely on chemistry it would have gotten a gold star.  However, the main couple had more potential then they ended up being in the end.  Did I like them? Yes, I just didn't love them.  As I said earlier they were a bit lack luster and a tad forgettable.  However, Bridger, now that man intrigues me.  I can't wait to find out his story.  Was this my favorite Sawyer Bennett book?  Sadly, no but it was still good.
