When Lauren Smith begrudgingly returns to the small Vermont town where she grew up to arrange for the sale of her late grandmother’s old farmhouse, she has everything she’s always worked for. Lauren drives a Mercedes. She’s engaged to one of the most powerful businessmen in the country and wears a three-carat diamond ring to prove it. She lives in a penthouse on Central Park West.

Yes, Lauren has everything she considers important. She is smugly prepared for any eventuality in dealing with these country people so Lauren isn’t surprised when the hot water isn’t working at the old house. No problem. She simply looks in the phone book and calls the local plumber.

The moment Caleb Cochran steps through the old screen door to fix the hot water, the glittery facade that masquerades as Lauren’s life begins to crumble around her. Though she tries hard to deny their mutual, magnetic attraction, Lauren is finally forced to reevaluate her focus and come face-to-face with her true self. Small Town Girl is a story of discovering the true meaning of life and love.
This novel is the first book in the Small Town series, however, each book can be read as a stand-alone.

But guarding the willful beauty is harder than he imagined—and Caleb can’t resist the temptation to mix business with pleasure. Synopsis from Goodreads

My Review...

I am a huge fan of Ruthie Knox's writing and was NOT disappointed with this book.  Right away you fall for Caleb and Ellen and also Carly and Jamie and I can't wait to find out about Katie in the next installment.

I loved this book with it's banter and wit between the couples especially during their hide the bone sessions.  The communication between them becomes magical yet realistic and awkward which makes it feel more real.

There is just something about this book that I loved. It left me with such a good feeling after. I liked the characters, the love matches, the hard ships, the family dilemmas, the banter, etc.... There was such a good balance to this book.

The connection and chemistry between Caleb and Ellen is hot and beautiful.  I was able to feel the emotional turmoil from Ellen while you feel the love ooze out of Caleb.  They are such a good match for each other.

Not too much more to say but I loved it and it was a easy light read which left me with a good feeling after.

Falling For you Blog Tour Review & Excerpt

Newly single Cassidy Quinn is thrilled to be a contestant on the new reality dating show The One. But her excitement turns to horror when the gorgeous bachelor turns out to be her ex-boyfriend. Seeing Brad again makes Cassidy realize she might not be as “over him” as she thought—and then she meets hunky cameraman Evan Burke.
After watching his brother lose his wife in a tragic accident, Evan vows never to fall in love. But following Cassidy around as her personal cameraman makes him question his decision, and resisting her gets harder with every sunbathing, bikini-wearing day.
Cassidy and Evan begin a forbidden affair while her ex-boyfriend tries to win her heart back one groping, awkward moment at a time. If Cassidy can manage to stop falling off horses (literally), stop falling onto her ex-boyfriend, the bachelor (yes, literally), and stop falling in love with backstage playboy Evan, she might still make it through the show without becoming a tabloid sensation
But soon Cassidy must choose between the ex who broke her heart and the cameraman who might never love her back. For Cassidy, this reality show just got real.
Excerpt
“I don’t know about you girls,” Zoe said, “but I definitely think there are more hot men here than just the bachelor we’re all fighting for.”
“What are you talking about?” Holly asked. “Brad is super-hot. Like hawt.”
“Yeah I know, but you can’t honestly say you haven’t noticed the guys following us around, right?” Zoe nodded her head in the general direction of the cameramen surrounding the pool a few feet back.
“Zoe, you know they can still hear us in here,” Erica whispered.
Cassidy opened her eyes at the talk of cameramen. What is Zoe up to now?
“I know they can hear us, moron. That’s the point.” Zoe propped herself up on the edge of the hot tub on her forearms, forcing her breasts to jut out in front of her. “And I’m hoping one particular cameraman likes what he hears…and sees.”
Cassidy’s jaw dropped into the hot water as she realized Zoe was not only being overtly sexual, again, but this time it was projected directly at Evan. Her Evan.
Back off bi-otch. Six, seven, eight… Just relax. Keep your mouth shut. This is none of your business.
“You know we can’t do anything with the crew,” Erica said. “It said so on one of those forms we signed.”
“I know that,” Zoe huffed, “but that doesn’t mean I can’t have a little fun while I’m waiting around for the finale, does it? Besides, someone needs to give America something good to watch. You girls certainly aren’t helping the ratings.”
Holly rolled her eyes. “So you’re going to screw around with the crew to help ratings?”
“Oh relax, girls. It’s not like I’m going to sleep with him or anything.” Zoe smirked. “Just a little harmless flirting, that’s all. Unless of course, someone else already has her eyes on him?”
Cassidy locked eyes with Zoe.
Is she implying there’s something going on with me and Evan? Why would she think that? Just because I want to jump him every time I’m near him doesn’t mean I have a thing for him. I can’t help it if my mind goes to dirty places when he’s around. I’ve never acted on one of those thoughts, so what’s she getting at? It’s not like she can read my mind… Can she? No, idiot, she can’t.
Say something, she’s still staring at you.
“You can do whatever you want, right girls?” Cassidy said to the other women. “Maybe you’ll even get yourself kicked off the show.”
“They can’t kick me out for saying hello and being polite.”
I can kick you.

My Review...

So I had this on my to be read list for quite awhile and then once I got a chance to read it for a tour I jumped on it.  With this book I liked the idea of it but at times I felt it a bit predictable and cliche.

I immediately fell for Evan and I felt the chemistry between Cassidy and Evan right away. I however didn't feel the connection between Cassidy and Brad so that part of the love triangle fell flat for me because I didn't feel it but that was ok because I was team Evan all the way.

I loved the tension between Zoe and Cassidy and I can't wait to find out more in the next book with Paige and Zoe.  Even though Zoe is a jerk I think there is a story to unfold will find out soon enough.
With Paige she was a sweetheart who just wanted to be loved so I hope to see her HEA soon.

I did like the growth and exploration of Evan and Cassidy and felt this book was cute and an easy read without too much drama and it did hook me in enough to read the next book in the series. :)

My Review...

First off let's start with saying that everything that Jillian Dodd has written has been awesome.  I first fell in love with this series with Stalk me.

At first I was unsure about Keatyn and her choices but I realize it was more about me being naive to her world and existence.  This story is about finding one's self in a big unknown world with many threats.  There were times I was thinking wow Keatyn is a wee bit of a tramp but then I went into the archives of my mind WAY back and thought about what it was like as a teenager then I remembered we were so in love with the idea of being in love and being loved back that we "loved" so quickly that it felt so real and right.

In reality the more we don't know ourselves the harder it is to distinguish real love.  Keatyn is on a journey of discovery but also doesn't know how to be by herself so she clings to notions and ideas. She thinks she is doing it by herself because her family is not around but she always seems to need a boy to "love her" and vice versa.

I have had so many team's of who I think she should be with from Brooklyn, to Cush, to Aiden, etc... that I have lost count but what I really want from her now is to find herself and realize that she doesn't need anyone but herself and once that happens then her partner can only compliment her and help her grow.  But...in truth even though Dawson is awesome he just doesn't feel like the one so I am so torn but at the end of Kiss me I am on.....Team Aiden.

I think the concept of this serial series is awesome and I can't wait to read the rest of them once they come out.

Book Boyfriend Monday - Nick Merimon

This week I decided to go with Nick Merimon from Fall For Me (Danvers #3) by Sydney Landon

Why oh why is Nick worthy?

Well.....
  1. He is just so damn adorable and loving and committed and doesn't even realize it
  2. He is a loyal stand up guy
  3. Hell he is gorgeous and rich (you can't go wrong there)

Here are some of the reasons how I fell in love with Nick:

"I won't let you down, Beth.  I'll be the best husband and father that I can possibly be. Just give me a chance to prove it.  You will never want for anything. I'll lay the world at your feet. Just believe in me, please." loc 789 (hell yeah! I believe in you nick :)  )

"I am constantly in awe of your daughters.  They are smart, funny, intelligent,  compassionate, and beautiful.  Everyone who knows them loves them.  I'm starting to think they must be adopted.  I can't imagine you two even having children, much less having two as outstanding as Beth and Suzy." loc 1776  (now who wouldn't want that in their corner)

"Princess, you need to learn to love yourself, just as I love you.  I love you for you.  Whatever size you feel comfortable with is for you to determine.  I never want you to think you have to resort to starving yourself for me.  You are Beth to me, not a number on the scales." loc 2801 (*swoon*)

Synopsis from Goodreads

 My Review...

I was given to the opportunity to read these two novellas and I was so happy that I was given it because I absolutely loved this series.

C.C. Wood has a gift for making you fall in love with the characters and making their relationship feel right and not rushed in a very short amount of time being a novella.  Often with novellas we are left wanting more or feeling it was too rushed. That is so not the case in this situation.

Both books were fantastic. In this book Nat and Aidan have lust at first sight so when they decide to have a friends with benefits relationship it seems like a no brainer but of course Aidan sees the light right away and Nat is being daft (silly woman) but once the cloud clears Nat can finally appreciate Aidan for all that he is which in my opinion near perfection. (funny, gorgeous, successful, loyal, protective...do I need to go on).

I loved all the characters in this book and felt the book at such a nice pace for such a short read. I loved it and Nat and Aidan so they a get a for sure

Angry and disillusioned, Cat spends the next six months trading barbs with Patrick.

All that changes after Nat and Aidan get hitched. During the newlywed's two week honeymoon, Cat offers to housesit, only to discover her now-single arch nemesis is living next door. He's persistent and sexy-as-hell in his pursuit of her and Cat discovers there's more to like, maybe even love, about Patrick Hart than she once thought. She wonders if she can trust this man with her heart or too afraid to try

Synopsis from Goodreads

 My Review...

I was so happy that I got to read both of these in one sitting. I couldn't put either of them down once I started to read them.

We meet Cat and Patrick in Friends with Benefits. Cat is so spunky and a trouble maker with a big heart.  With Patrick we only briefly meet him in the first book so I didn't know what to make of him but he very quickly stole my heart like Aidan in the first book.  I wish my friends and I could find an amazing pair of brothers like that. (nah..my husband is pretty perfect as well but don't tell him that since it may go to his head. LOL)

I love how persistent Patrick is with convincing Cat to give them a chance.  It made such a fun journey seeing the fire ignite with these two.  I love the way C.C. Wood writes in these novellas.  She has a gift for making such a short read not feel jammed or rushed.  Both books had the perfect balance of growth, passion, friendship, hardship and love)

I really recommend this series especially if you are looking for a quick read.

Book Blast: Bent by H.B. Heinzer - Guest Post

Title: Bent
Author: H.B. Heinzer
Release Date: 1/22/2013
Genre: Contemporary

Guest Post:
H.B.’s Favorite Genre & Why.
I'm not at all ashamed to say I'm a romance junkie!

Why? Because, to me, romance novels are fairy tales for grown ups.

I don't need a ball gown or a prince to rescue me. At 35, I've pretty well given up on every having those things in my life. And if a pumpkin turned into a stage coach or I was sailing through the sky on a flying carpet, I'd have to figure out who gave me the drugs and where to get more of them.

On the other hand, give me a tattooed, motorcycle riding knight on polished chrome or a badass rocker to fall in love with and I'm a goner. Those are things that I might never have in my life but it's fun to dream about them. And yes, I'll admit that my reasoning extends to things like having a loving, committed menage relationship with two men who are as in love with one another as they are with me or going to a BDSM club.

The other reason I read romance is that my mind seems to stay turned on when I sleep. No, not that way, although depending on the book, I suppose maybe that way. Whatever is going on before I go to sleep is what I dream about. In vivid detail. If I watch a mystery, I will be dreaming in mysteries all night. If I read kids books and go to bed immediately after, I get talking chickens and families of cows haunting me all night. So, what better way to have a good night of sleep than to read a love story?

Book Blurb:
If there’s one thing Julia Wilson has learned in life, it’s that you can’t push your own dreams to the background for anyone. Newly divorced, Julia returns to the hometown she once swore would never see her again. Her plan is simple; enjoy the cheap rent her friend is offering and stay just long enough to develop a plan to make her own dreams come true.

It doesn’t take long before Julia realizes she’s made a big mistake.

Micah Anderson came closer to breaking Julia than anyone else ever had. After promising her forever, he broke her heart the week before she left for college. Now, Julia’s back in town and he’s going to have to tell her the truth about why he left her. It’s not possible to hide a twelve year old child when you live in a town of 5,000 people.

Is following your dreams worth it if it means giving up on a second chance with her first love? Is trying to make a relationship work worth it if his past becomes a threat to her safety?

Author Bio:
I’ve been reading romance novels for over 20 years now. My fascination started with my mother’s collection of romance novels which lined half of one wall in the master bedroom of my childhood home. After I graduated from high school, life began to interfere with my reading and I didn’t read nearly as often as I would like. When my daughter was born, we decided that it would be more beneficial for me to be a stay at home mom. To fill the income gap, I began freelance writing for a variety of websites and print publications.

From there, I progressed to writing blogs as a way to hang on to the pieces of myself I felt slipping away as I filled my roles as wife and mother. Blogging slowly morphed from a creative outlet for my writing to a way to place another egg in my work at home basket.

It wasn’t until I attending a blogging conference in 2012 that I was overcome with the need to write a book. I’d been thinking about it since I was 15 but it was one of those “someday” dreams. There were two speakers at that conference who convinced me I needed to do it. Just shy of a year later, here I am!

Falling Into Paradise

Adult

Book Description:
A woman too afraid to commit. A man too hurt to love again. A passion that refuses to be denied.

Sophie Redmond knew betrayal, she knew mistrust. She knew everything that was wrong with the world, until Damon Watson charmed his way into her life. The rules she used to shield her heart were broken one by one, as Damon showed her compassion and kindness. When no one else believes in her, he shows her hope. But is hope ever enough?

Damon knew trouble when he saw it. He was the sheriff. He could spot it a mile away and Sophie was trouble with a capital T. What was it about this City Slicker doctor that made him want to forget everything but those whiskey brown eyes and that honey blonde hair spilled against his naked chest.

Can Damon put the past behind him and choose to love again?

Reader Alert! Sophie thought sex was a game that could be controlled with rules, but add a playboy who knew every trick in the book, and she couldn’t help but throw her rule book away. Caution! Sophie and Damon tend to sizzle on the page as much as they do in bed, so take care to stock up on the ice!

 EXCERPT:

His eyes were gray. No blue. No gray. Damn she couldn’t tell. His finger was travelling down her neck. Soft touches now. Down and down. She felt his finger graze the side of her breast. She took a deep, deep breath and then she bit down hard on her lip.

“I’m collecting on that rain check. We could use a night out.”

There was only one explanation for her reaction. Men like Damon were born with the gene. The fall-for-me or regret it forever gene. That was the only explanation. It certainly didn’t have anything to do with his bad-boy attitude, or the uniform although she always had a thing for a man in a uniform. But that was the old her. The less wise her. The her, who had let a man destroy her future.

“Damon, I know your type and I don’t want to play.”

His finger had it reached Nirvana and she was finding it hard to think of more reasons not to say yes. With his finger circling her nipple she could feel her blood racing, her breath slowing and heat pouring from every pore.

Liquid heat rushed out shamefully warning her he was dangerous. But his fingers wouldn’t stop and her nipples were highly sensitized. She could feel the ache and she wanted him to pull up her shirt and feel his hands on her naked skin. But she couldn’t ask for it.

“Your nipples tell a different story. They tell me you want me as much as I want you.”

Her mouth dried.

“Stop.”

“Only if you ask me nicely.”

My Review...

I signed up for this tour not knowing what to expect from this book and I was so glad that I did because I really liked this book. It was a deeply emotional story with a mix of angst, suspense, heartache, passion and love.

Sophie had such a chip on her shoulder because of her past and you really don't blame her. I would too have a steal armor with that family and past. Then she meets Damon *swoon* who could charm just about anyone.

Right away I liked their chemistry with banter and sexual tension but I felt a bit robbed with the evolution of them. It was "I liked you... No I'm an island stay away.....Boom they are under the sheets" (that was all my own inner dialogue. ) I thought that was a bit too quick but the growth of the emotional relationship was beautiful.

They both had their own baggage and were treading uncharted waters but together they seemed to figure it out and create a community and family where they both least expected it.  This community was brought together by the tragedy that Sophie, Damon and the town had to face. At times I was like "Jesus, enough what more can one individual take" but that is what made Sophie such a strong emotional character.

I loved Sophie and Damon and I really liked this book.

I have been writing all my life. Did I always think I’d be a writer, probably not? But one day I woke up and had a seed of an idea and the dream began. I love reading and I am a romantic at heart so it was natural for me to write romance. As a nurse I tried not to tell people about the characters in my head because that is frowned upon But for me writing is what makes my heart sing and I love it.
