My Better When He's Bad Review ...

I first fell in love with Jay Crownover's writing with the Marked Men series then I found out that she had a new bad boy in town so I could not wait to read it.

But Bax isn't a bad boy, he's just plain bad.  He's a wolf in the 'black sheep' 's clothing.  All Bax has known is the hard truth reality that life sucks and you can't always make lemonade out of lemons, so why even try to aim higher.

Dovie has lived a hard life but she is not going to let that stop her from wanting more out of life.

Once Bax gets out of prison he wants answers to why he just lost his last 5 years, but first he has to find Race. On his search he comes across the plain jane homely Dovie.  And what he didn't expect was his world to get turned on its axes.

As Bax searches for answers and fights for order in a shit reality he also starts to see a side of himself he didn't know he had.

As Dovie tries to survive the ugliness of her reality she also fights for Bax to want more and be more.  Bax breaks my heart with his truth and his choices but even though he doesn't think he deserves happiness he is all in when it comes to the depth of his emotions.  There was so much beauty to his love in such a dark raw world. 

I really do enjoy the Marked Men series but I think Jay Crownover has out done herself with this one.  It was dark, edgy, and real.  There was surprise, angst, rawness, love and hope. This book is not about rainbows and unicorns, it is about reality.  Bax & Dovie's HEA is real and right.

I can't NOT wait for more from this series and Jay Crownover.
