The Backup Boyfriend (Boyfriend Chronicles #1) - #review
The Backup Boyfriend (The Boyfriend Chronicles #1)

Professionally, Dr. Alec Johnson has almost reached his goals. As this year’s recipient of a humanitarian award with his ex, Dr. Tyler Hall, Alec’s work with the homeless is about to be recognized. Unfortunately, his personal life sucks because now he has to attend several events alongside Tyler—with his ex’s new boyfriend in tow. In an attempt to lift his mood and break out of his rut, Alec purchases a motorcycle he has no idea how to start.

Dylan Booth doesn't have time for Dr. Clueless and his fickle 1964 Harley, but the cocky mechanic can’t say no to the request for help. Having spent his teen years on the streets, and losing his best friend to HIV, Dylan decides teaching the do-gooder how to ride is the least he can do. But watching Alec flounder in his ex's company throws Dylan into protector mode, and the confirmed hetero introduces himself as Alec's new boyfriend.

The ex suspects Dylan is lying.

Alec claims Dylan’s plan is insane.

And Dylan’s not sure he can fake being gay.

But he’s a master bullshitter, and the phony PDA soon turns ultra-hot. Alec can’t afford to get attached, and Dylan’s learned everyone eventually leaves. Unfortunately, playing the backup boyfriend is starting to feel way too real…

My Review...

You can't go wrong with the straight fake back up boyfriend and gay man. Nope you just can't.

Alec is having a tough time moving on from Tyler so he starts to act spontaneous with the idea of winning Tyler back.  To start with his spontaneity Alec buys a used motorcycle. Since he doesn't have a hot clue how to ride it he instills the help of Dylan the straight mechanic.

Dylan has no issues with gay men he is just straight but something about Alec brings out his protective side. Once Dylan meets Alec's ex Tyler he quickly jumps in to save Alec by being Alec's fake backup boyfriend.
"I wouldn't miss this fake-homo show for all the Gucci shoes on Rodeo Drive..."
The more Dylan helps out with this fake assignment the more blurred lines appear.

For Alec he doesn't do one night stands. He is a commitment and label guy.

For Dylan he's not sure anymore what he wants but what he does know is that he enjoys his time with Alec but doesn't want to admit what it really is between the two of them.

Dylan's fear get in the way causing him to run.  With Dylan's abandonment Alec realizes that with Tyler he was in love with the idea of a relationship but not truly Tyler. With this realization he also realizes what pressure society puts on the stigma of labels.

After this Alec fights for Dylan however he will have him.

I am such a big fan of the straight to gay storyline and River handled this coming out story with finesse and ease.

Great story and I can't wait for Tyler's story.
