A Boys of the South Novel
Released January 20, 2014
New Adult Contemporary

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Marquita Valentine, comes the 4th book in her new adult series, BOYS OF THE SOUTH.

There's only one place in the world Lacey Evans feels normal- the roller derby track. When she laces up her skates and fastens her helmet, she's powerful and in charge. She knows exactly what to do and what to say. The rules are clear and penalties are enforced for those who don't follow them. But in the read world, she's far from powerful and in charge. She never knows exactly what to do and say. For years, she counted on one person to be exactly who he said he was--her best friend, Wyatt Tanaka. Only she changed the rules on him, without any warning, and now she's the one being punished.

Marine veteran, Wyatt Tanaka, came home to a heroes welcome. But he's hiding a secret, one that could potential destroy his life. He's doing the best he can, trying to cope with the guilt and the pain of the girl he loves pushing him away by doing all the things he'd sworn not too. Women, bars, drugs and drinking are what consume him. With Lacey's new rules, he has nothing to hold on to. Nothing to keep in from feeling dead.

Then one night, he goes too far, gets in too deep, and when the truth comes out... will Lacey keep pushing him away or help save him?

My Review...

FINALLY we get Wyatt and Lacey's heartbreaking story.

So as Wyatt is trying to deal with the after effects of war the one thing he has as a constant is Lacey until Lacey breaks up with him for no reason.  This pushes Wyatt way OVER the edge which causes him to go on a downward spiral.

For Lacey all she needs is rules, structure and Wyatt.  But trying to do the right thing is not always the easiest.  Lacey is just such so innocent and pure.  There is so much about her that just melts your heart.

For Wyatt and Lacey it is a struggle to find balance with their own issues and trying to make 'just' friends work.
Secrets always have a way of coming out at the exact moment you wish they wouldn't
Once the green light is given you think it will be smooth sailing but NOPE this is when the shit hits the fan but you know that their bond is beautiful  and strong so it should be able to survive anything.

I LOVE the way Wyatt treats Lacey well expect when he has his asshole moments but they are pretty warranted.  The way he helps her is so heartbreakingly beautiful.  I love the connection and love between these two.  The struggles that the two of them have to deal with to find a slice of happiness is heartbreaking yet it feels so real.

This book in the series is by far my favorite of the series but my only complaint which has nothing to do with the writing but it drives me CRAZY when the main storyline is miscommunication after miscommunication after miscommunication.  Things could have been SOOOOOOO much smoother and happier if they actually you know talked to one another instead of assuming and misjudging situations.  Besides that personal frustration I really have enjoyed the series and my fingers are crossed that there will be more and we get to find out about Parker and Beau.

4 Touching Thumbs up!
