Book & Author details:

TAUT: The Ford Book by JA Huss
(Rook and Ronin Spin-off)
Published January 20, 2014
Contemporary, Erotic Romance, New-ish Adult

Synopsis:
TAUT IS A STANDALONE NOVEL - you do NOT have to read any of the Rook and Ronin books first.

Ford Aston is known for many things. Being an emotionless, messed up bastard, a freakishly smart social outcast, and a cold, domineering master who keeps "pets" instead of girlfriends.

And after Rook broke his heart, he plans to keep it that way.

Ashleigh is known for nothing, and that's exactly what she's got going for her. She's broke, stranded in the mountains with a three month old baby, and Ford Aston is screwing with her head.

Big. Time.

And she plans to mess with his right back.

It's a coy game at first, filled with flirting, and innuendo--but Ford soon realizes something is not quite right with Ashleigh. In fact, something is seriously, seriously wrong and the closer they get to their final destination, the closer Ford gets to the truth.

One night of devastation, self-loathing, and emptiness turns into the best thing that ever happened to Ford Aston. But one day of in-your-face reality threatens Ashleigh's whole existence.

******
Since A LOT of people have been asking here is the scoop on how this book fits in with my Rook & Ronin series:

Ford first appears in Rook and Ronin #2, Manic. He has a bigger role in Panic, R&R #3, and then he has a novella, called SLACK. This TAUT book is only FORD. It's not really part of the R&R series, as that plot has all been sidelined for this one romance book.

AUTHOR BIO
J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.

My Review...

Finally, Finally we get to find out about Ford.  I have been dying to know what makes Ford tick.  This is part of a spin off series but can be read as a stand alone.

Ford is so misunderstood.  He thinks he is a freak but in reality he's just different but he is no different than the rest of us. He's just looking to love and be loved.  He just doesn't know how to go about the normal way. But what really is normal.  It is just a word.

Ford is still dealing with the loss of the potential love of Rook. He was in love with the idea of being in love and he thought Rook fit the bill because she is the first person that affected him in a different way.

While running away from his life, responsibilities and Rook he comes across a young woman and her baby who need help.  Not one to normally give a shit about anyone or anything but something about them softens Ford's dark heart and he reaches out to them.

However, things aren't ever easy for Ford and of course the real first time he reaches out to help and let his emotional guard down he comes across someone else who may be just as eff'd up as him.

He sort of temporary adopts Ashleigh and her daughter Kate and does the unthinkable and falls in love but Ashleigh's secrets and baggage just may be too much.

Even through Ashleigh's secrets the one thing that binds them is the sexual chemistry and passion potential between the two.

As they continue their journey Ford realizes what he wants, needs and deserves and does everything in his power to get it and at the same time he gets over the idea of Rook and starts fresh.

With Ashleigh I wasn't sure about if she was right for my Ford.  With her secret I had a feeling what it was but once I still found out it still did break my heart.  My only fault was at times with her secret and all of her emotions it was hard to wade through and see the true strength of the connection between Ford & Ashleigh but in the end Ford got his well deserved HEA and I can NOT wait to find out what the dealio is with Spencer.

I love these spin off series and especially that we get to see the evolution of the team in the process.

4 Ford Loving Thumbs up!

SLACK: A Day in the Life of Ford Aston (Rook and Ronin Spinoff)

by

Ford Aston is not too picky about what he wants out of Christmas. He’s not into this holiday—like at all. He doesn’t do presents, or family dinners, or parties, or church.

He does pets. And he’s got one lined up for Christmas Eve. In fact, it’s the highlight of his day. And if he can get through drop-in visits, nosy twelve year olds, an inappropriate conversation with his best friend’s girlfriend, dinner with a family that’s not his, and a party at his mother’s house—well, he might just get home in time to enjoy himself with a stranger and make it all OK.

SLACK: A Day in the Life of Ford Aston, is a prequel to TAUT: The Ford Book, and can be read as a standalone novella.

My Review...
Oh Boy! Ford!  That boy has some some deep dark wants, desires and needs.

I loved this little novella that we get to see into a brief window into Ford and how he ticks.

Ford wants connections but needs control so he has 'pets' to keep him company.  But with these pets he realizes that he wants and needs more.
I am the first to admit that my rules are unreasonable. My behavior is atrocious. My indifference is derogatory.
With these wants he gets confused with his feelings with Rook and his loyalty to Ronin.

In this novella we get to see a bit more on Ford's part of the 'team' and his role within as well as we get to see into the pure heart that belongs to the emotionless gruff exterior that Ford hides behind.
In the end Ford just wants to be loved and who could blame him.  I know if I had Ford in my life I would love him. Kinks and all.
I'm a freak looking for a freak. A freak that can relate to me.

4 Ford is awesome thumbs up!
