My When We Met Review ...

What!!! A collaboration book from some my favorite NA authors

The set up of this book was four girls living in a house going to a college in Michigan. Each author writes about a girl each. But with each story the other characters are in each story completing the whole story as a whole.

Each girl has their own baggage but with the help of neighbors, past friends and acquaintances they are able to move on and find happiness when they least expect it.

BEHIND HER EYES by A.L. Jackson

Misha is a trusting soul and a open heart only to have it ripped open by a class 'A' douchebag.  After running home to lick her wounds she comes back to the last place she wanted to be.  Now with a new mission to move forward and not trust anyone she sets out to be happy again.  However, with her new neighbor Darryn it puts a bit of a kink into her plans.  Darryn stole a bit of my heart with his plan to win over Misha.  Their story was short, sweet and about trusting again while finding love when you least expect it.

SAVING ME by Molly McAdams

Oh! Boy! Indy is a bit of an enigma.  She has a past which makes her to want to escape and forget. She tries first with her boyfriend but when she too comes face to face with a world class dirt bag she now resorts to drinking.  She drinks so much to forget that she starts to black out memories.  As time goes on Indy quickly realizes what her drinking is doing being faced with realities she isn't aware of. However, one thing even when drunk is she is drawn to the safe room that protects her and keeps her safe but sadly she doesn't remember it.   Kier is the ultimate sweetheart always taking care of his neighbor Indy even though for months she doesn't remember it.  Determined to keep her safe Kier continues to help her.  Once sober Indy realizes she is drawn to the quiet mystery neighbor but can't figure out why.  The more drawn she is, the more she lets him in.  As they get closer they both find out their dark secrets which could either separate them or bond them.   Even though Kier's past is a bit harsher he makes up for it tenfold with his silent ways.  Sweet story about second chances and finding hope and happiness when you least expect it.

FOULING OUT by Tiffany King

Ah! Courtney was a bit of a mystery to me in the first two stories but here we get to see why she keeps so busy away from their home.  To pay her way for school and living she has to work at the local sports bar.  She likes the money but is not a big fan of the basketball team unfortunately she is the odd man out in this college basketball loving town.   Working one night she comes face to face with her past best friend and boyhood crush, who moved on for no real reason.  After she sees Dalton again she puts up her shields because her past hurt is still there.   Dalton has a different reaction when he sees Courtney.  Being the local sports basketball hero (thus Courtney's reason for not liking basketball) he's used to everyone fawning over him.  So, when his past friend doesn't give him the time of day, he changes everything to get her to notice him.  The more they hang out the more Courtney lets down her guard and finds about Dalton's reasons for they way he acts.  Even though they may have different reasons to why they are the way they are, together they just work, as much as when they were kids expect now it is so much more.  Another sweet story but this one was more of a friends to lovers story.

BENEATH YOUR LAYERS by Christina Lee

Hmmm, Chloe I have to admit was my least favorite of the girls.  Her story was good but I just didn't resonate with her.  Chloe was the stuck up girl, who needs to be in control of everything while she is moving forward to her future dreams.  Chloe needs to the control because without it her mom would control everything.  Needing to finish a class project she is forced to work with her bosses nephew Blake.  She knows Blake but they are really just acquaintances because they both don't have a great first impression of each other.  Chloe doesn't know a lot about Blake but she is quick to judge him negatively.  Blake would normally ignore someone uptight like Chloe but he feels like he is missing something of the real her.  So, he coaxes her into playing a month long game of truth or dare to get to know the real Chloe.  The more they play the more they get to know each other.  Even though they are different places in their life they learn to balance each other out.  I adored Blake and Chloe did grow on me in the end.  The story was quick, cute and about finding love in the most unlikely places while finding one's own dreams in the process.

Some of the stories were better than others but I liked the concept of the format of the book.  As a whole I quite liked the book, how can you not we you combine these fantastic authors. :)

There’s a budding romance on Butler Mountain, but in the hornets’ nest known as the Abbott family, keeping a secret is no easy feat…

Colton Abbott and Lucy Mulvaney have a secret. Colton’s nosy siblings have begun to put the pieces together, but it’s not like Lucy to keep things from those closest to her—especially her best friend, Cameron, who recently moved to Vermont to live with her true love, Will. Flitting between New York and Vermont is exhausting, so Lucy is looking forward to a long weekend with Colton at the Abbott family lake house in Burlington. Too bad Will and Cameron have the same idea, and once Colton and Lucy are caught red-handed (and red-faced), will their clandestine romance lose its appeal or will their secret beginnings be the start of something lasting?

My I Saw Her Standing There Review ...

I do adore this series and these beta men, who are gorgeous and sweet although sometimes too sweet.  However, these Abbots and there meddling ways are hilarious and with each book you fall more in love with the Abbotts

Here we finally get to find out what the dear sexy mountain man Colton Abbott is hiding from his family and at the same time we get to continue to see the growth of the others, while getting a hint of what is instore for from the other Abbotts.

However, when I  read this I had a gamut of emotions throughout.

To start with:

Me about Colton Abbot

Me about Lucy Malvaney

The story is based upon the fact that Lucy lives in NY and Colton lives in Vermont.  They fall in love but don't see how they can move forward.  Colton holds firm to finding a solution where Lucy holds firm to guarding her heart.

As their relationship continues I got more and more frustrated with Lucy.

The more she wavered

The way she walked away

The too quick of resolution

Colton's idea of compromise

the ending

I did like this story but I definitely didn't love it as Lucy never wormed her way into my heart. Which was sad for me because that's what lost part of the story for me.  All the Abbotts and their partners are fantastic but Lucy not so much.  Hopefully, as the series continue and we continue to see the growth of these two, that she'll eventually grow on me. Finger crossed but let's be honest and focus on more important things like, I'm so curious as how Hunter and Megan are going to play out.

3 Didn't love Lucy so much thumbs up!

My Last Light Review ...

This is the follow up to Night Owl and Oh! Boy Matt's spiral is only beginning and the the depths that he goes to get his way are mind blowing.

Poor Matt. Wants his privacy back but to win it he has to do the unthinkable.   With his new choice he has the chance to lose Hannah but his love for writing will always be bigger than his love for himself or anyone else.

Hannah doesn't agree with Matt's plan but gets it and loves Matt enough to support his wishes.  However, Matt is not doing well with his plan and it now is imploding around him step by step.  If only Matt didn't live in the world of lies, deception and manipulation than maybe he would be able to find the happiness that he didn't know existed.

Again the way this book unfolds is brilliant and in this book you start to understand more of why their relationship is so unhealthy.  All the stakes are coming out in this one but will their unhealthy love be enough to stay together.

This ending didn't leave me in confusion but it did leave me wondering many things of:  how it's all going to unfold?,  will they find their HEA?,  Will Matt be able to honest and open?,  What will happen to the infamous W. Pierce? ,What will happen with Matt's brothers?  So many details that I need answered hopefully sooner than later.

3 Full of lies and deception thumbs up!

My Night Owl Review ...

So this book is tough for me to review because elements of how this was written and set up were pure genius but their relationship was so unhealthy that it was hard to fully fall in love with them.

Matt and Hannah meet online in a writing forum.  Matt has rules in place for a reason and he never wants to meet or know Hannah but they accidently cross the line then Matt becomes OBSESSED with Hannah.  His lies and deceptions are what ruin him, but he doesn't process like the average joe that's for sure.

There relationship is lightening fast from 0 to a 100 in no time flat with kinky sex first then the relationship starts to form after. As Hannah and Matt move forward, Matt worlds start to collide and eventually explode causing him to live his biggest fear.

Matt is a famous writer who loves and needs to write but he wants to remain a recluse from the world.  The unfortunate thing about Hannah is it forces him to be brought out into the spotlight which eventually breaks Matt.

This is where the real story begins as you watch Matt spin out of control.  Even though their love is fresh, fragile and unhealthy, it still is a huge bond that they can't break.

The ending was shocking and confused the ever loving crap out of me but has me hooked to find out more.

3 Unhealthy Thumbs up!!!

Letting Go by Molly McAdams

Synopsis:

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author returns with a sizzling novel of love, loss, guilt, and forgiveness.
Grey and Ben fell in love at thirteen and believed they’d be together forever. But three days before their wedding, the twenty-year-old groom-to-be suddenly died from an unknown heart condition, destroying his would-be-bride’s world. If it hadn’t been for their best friend, Jagger, Grey never would have made it through those last two years to graduation. He’s the only one who understands her pain, the only one who knows what it’s like to force yourself to keep moving when your dreams are shattered. Jagger swears he’ll always be there for her, but no one has ever been able to hold on to him. He’s not the kind of guy to settle down.
It’s true that no one has ever been able to keep Jagger—because he’s only ever belonged to Grey. While everyone else worries over Grey’s fragility, he’s the only one who sees her strength. Yet as much as he wants Grey, he knows her heart will always be with Ben. Still they can’t deny the heat that is growing between them—a passion that soon becomes too hot to handle. But admitting their feelings for each other means they’ve got to face the past. Is being together what Ben would have wanted . . . or a betrayal of his memory that will eventually destroy them both?

About the Author:

Molly McAdams grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry daughter. Her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling and long walks on the beach, which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. When she's not at work, she can be found hiding out in her bedroom surrounded by her laptop, cell, Kindle and fighting over the TV remote. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm...or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.

My Letting Go Review ...

Let's start with that I'm a huge fan of Molly McAdams. *Squee* Though as I was reading this I started to question the predictability of this book which is so unusual for Molly then all of a sudden BAM! comes the Molly plot twist which I have grown accustomed to.  Phew I was worried for a bit.

Grey LaRue (which by the way is an awesome name) was living her fairytale by marrying one of her best friends to only have it all ripped away in an instant.  After this loss Grey is having a hard time coping but thankfully her other best friend Jagger is there to support her and help her move forward along the way.

As it's now two years later and time for Grey and Jagger to graduate, Grey still isn't 100% but it's time to return home and face her loss and keep moving forward.  As her and Jagger spend more and more time together Grey tumbles across Jagger's real feeling towards her.  Which puts Grey in another tail spin not knowing how to deal with it so she runs away.   While she runs away she's forced to realize that she's the only one who didn't realize the depth of Jagger's feelings.   With these new emotions, she realizes they may be returned.  But her inner conflict and guilt of her first love is crippling for her, causing her not to keep moving forward.  But Grey isn't the only one conflicted, Jagger may have loved Grey is whole life but he was also loyal to his best friend so it's hard for him to get what he wants and being unloyal to Ben's memory at the same time.

As Jagger and Grey come to terms with these new feelings they're forced with so many obstacles that are trying to rip them apart and gutting them at the same time.  With each obstacle Grey pulls away hurting Jagger a bit more each day.  If only they can find out who is being so cruel to them.  During this time I was wondering why they were being so daft that they couldn't figure it out when it was way obvious to the reader.  However, once that detail gets cleaned up we think all will go well for them after.  But no, we get more angst from so many other outlets, with each challenge they grow stronger which is great because when we least expect it we get the holy shit Molly McAdams moment that you didn't see coming.  With this bomb so many things can go wrong and blow apart.  It is the truest test for Jagger and Grey.

I really did enjoy this book.  It had tons of angst and drama. There were times where it was too predictable but the story was good and I was reeled in from beginning to end.

4 Angsty Thumbs up!

Prologue

Grey May 10, 2012

“Then over there is where the girls and I will be waiting before the ceremony starts,” I said, pointing to the all-seasons tent just off to the side. “I think the coordinator said she’d get us in there when the photographer is taking pictures of Ben and the boys on the other side house, so he won’t see me.”
I glanced to my mom and soon-to-be mother-in-law talking about the gazebo behind me, and what it would look like with the greenery and flowers, and I smiled to myself. They’d been going back and forth on whether we should keep the gazebo as it was or decorate it ever since Ben and I had decided on The Lake House as our wedding and reception site. And from the few words I was hearing now, they were still undecided. I honestly didn’t care how it was decorated. I wanted to be married to Ben, and in three days, I would be.
“Grey, this place is freaking gorgeous. I can’t believe you were able to get it on such short notice,” my maid-of-honor and best friend, Janie, said in awe.
“I know, but it’s perfect, right?”
“Absolutely perfect.”
I grabbed her hand and rested my head on her shoulder as I stared at the part of the property where the reception would be. Ben and I had promised our families that we wouldn’t get married until we’d graduated from college, but that had been a much harder promise to keep than we’d thought it would be. School let out for summer a few days ago, and we wanted to move off campus for our junior year … together. That hadn’t exactly gone over well with my parents. They didn’t want us living together until we were married. I think in my dad’s mind it helped him continue to believe I was his innocent little girl.
I’d been dating Ben since I was thirteen years old; the innocent part flew out the window over three years ago. Not that he needed to know that. After a long talk with both our parents, they agreed to let us get married now instead of two years from now.
That was seven weeks ago. Even though Ben had asked me to marry him last Christmas, we’d officially gotten engaged once we’d received the okay from our parents, and had started planning our wedding immediately. Seven weeks of being engaged. Seven years of being together. And in three days I would finally be Mrs. Benjamin Craft.
With how the last few weeks had dragged by, it felt like our day would never get here.
My phone rang and I pulled it out of my pocket. My lips tilted up when I saw Jagger’s name and face on the screen, but I ignored the call. Putting my phone back in my pocket, I kept my other hand firmly wrapped around Janie’s and walked over to where the rest of the bridesmaids were. My aunts and grandma had gathered around the gazebo-debating duo, and were helping them with the pros and cons.
“So what are we going to do tonight?” I asked, hoping to get some kind of information about the bachelorette party.
“Nice try.” Janie snorted. She started saying something else, but my phone rang again.
Glancing down and seeing Jagger again, I thought about answering it for a few seconds before huffing out a soft laugh and ignoring the call a second time. I knew why he was calling. He was bored out of his mind and wanted me to save him from the golf day Ben and all the guys were having before the bachelor party. Normally I would have saved him from the torture of golfing, but today was about Ben. If he wanted to go golfing with all his guys, then Jagger just had to suck it up for his best friend.
Almost immediately after ignoring the call, I got a text from him.
Jagger: Answer the goddamn phone Grey!
My head jerked back when the phone in my hand began ringing just as soon as I’d read the message, and all I could do was stare at it for a few seconds. A feeling of dread and unease formed in my chest, quickly unfurling and spreading through my arms and stomach.
Some part of my mind registered two other ringtones, but I couldn’t focus on them, or make myself look away from Jagger’s lopsided smile on my screen. With a shaky finger, I pressed on the green button, and brought the phone up to my ear.
Before I could say anything, his panicked voice filled the phone.
“Grey? Grey! Are you there? Fuck, Grey, say something so I know you’re there!”
There was a siren and yelling in the background, and the feeling that had spread through my body now felt like it was choking me. I didn’t know what was happening, but somehow … somehow I knew my entire world was about to change. My legs started shaking and my breaths came out in hard rushes.
“I—what’s happ—” I cut off quickly and turned to look at my mom and Ben’s. Both had phones to their ears. Ben’s mom was screaming with tears falling down her cheeks; my mom looked like the ground had just been ripped out from underneath her.
Jagger was talking, I knew his voice was loud and frantic, but I was having trouble focusing on the words. It sounded like he was yelling at me from miles away.
“What?” I whispered.
Everyone around me was freaking out, trying to figure out what was going on. One of my friends was asking who I was talking to, but I couldn’t even turn to look at her, or be sure who it was that had asked. I couldn’t take my eyes off the only other women currently talking on a phone.
“Grey! Tell me where you are, I’m coming to get you!”
I blinked a few times and looked down at my lap. I was sitting on the ground. When had I sat down?
Janie squatted in front of me and grabbed my shoulders to shake me before grabbing my cheeks so I would look at her instead of where my mom and Ben’s were clinging to each other.
“What?” I repeated, my voice barely audible.
Just before Janie took the phone from me, I heard a noise that sounded weighted and pained. A choking sound I’d never heard from Jagger in the eleven years we’d been friends. The grief in it was enough to force a sharp cry from my own chest, and I didn’t even struggle against Janie when she took the phone from me.
I didn’t understand anything that was happening around me, but somehow I knew everything. A part of me had heard Jagger’s words. A part of me understood what the horrified cries meant that quickly spread throughout every one of my friends. My family. Ben’s family. A part of me acknowledged the sense of loss that had added to the dread, unease, and grief—and knew why it was there.
A part of me knew the wedding I’d just been envisioning would never happen.

Guns n' Boys: Book 1, Part 2 (Guns n' Boys #1.2)

by

Guns n' Boys needs to be read in order. This is the second part of book one.

--- Love is sour like a Sicilian lemon. ---

The Family is always right.
The Family doesn’t forget.
The Family pays for blood in blood.

Domenico Acerbi grew up in the shade of Sicilian lemon trees ready to give his life for the Family. Ready to follow orders and exceed expectations. A proud man of honor.
When Seth, the younger son of the Don is kidnapped, it’s Domenico who is sent to get him back. The man he finds though, is not the boy he knew all those years ago. Lazy, annoying, spoiled, and as hot as a Sicilian summer.

Seth Villani wants nothing to do with the mafia. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get a say when the Family pulls him right back into its fold after his mother’s death. Thrown into a den of serpents otherwise known as the Villani Family, Seth has to find a way to navigate in the maze of lies. But when Domenico Acerbi, the most vicious snake of them all, sinks his fangs into Seth, the venom changes into an aphrodisiac that courses through Seth’s veins.

Domenico knows his life is about to change when he gets the order to train Seth up to the role of future Don. Seth isn’t made for it. He isn’t even made. But a man Domenico knows he would never have to fear might just be someone he’s always needed.

If Seth is doomed to follow in his father's footsteps, he might as well enjoy himself--with the most intoxicating man he’s ever met. Maybe he can even fool himself into believing that Domenico isn’t a handsome sociopath who kills for a living.

My Guns N' Boys Book 1 Part 2 Review ...

I effin' love this series and K.A. Merikan.   In this installment we get to the meat and potatoes of Seth and Domenico and their relationship.  They are both finding their way in this new relationship which causes many things to come unfringed with these two.

Poor Domenico may be the tough assassin but this love thing is so new to him that he starts to lose his marbles a bit when it comes to Seth.  As Seth and Dom can finally be themselves away from the family  their bond cements while their exploration of each other ignites.

While Seth and Dom are on american soil Seth starts to realize that homosexuality seems to be a hidden trait within this family.  Seth and Dom are put to many tests while they are training for the future.  Some they pass and others they fail miserably but no matter what they find out that they NEED each other no matter what the future holds.

Things seem to be going pretty easy for these two but the truth finally surfaces and Dom is faced with the hardest choice he has ever had to do.  His dream or his heart.  Tough choice but really there is only one answer when it comes to these two.  However, things are never easy with the mafia and we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger waiting to find out what happens for these two.  I can NOT wait for the next installment to find out what is instore with this forbidden duo.

The story was great. The relationship between Dom and Seth was great.  I Loved it!! I am so hooked on this series.
